We recently received a customer query about Dr. Coy’s Chocolate bars on the Yuka app and we’d like to share our response.
When you scan a Dr. Coy’s bar on Yuka, it may not score as highly as expected and here’s why.
Yuka is a useful tool, but it largely assesses products based on total sugar content, without distinguishing between different types of sugars or how they’re metabolised in the body.
The innovation behind Dr. Coy’s Chocolate bars is that we’ve replaced regular sugar with a low glycaemic alternative, giving our bars a Glycaemic Index of just 28. This means sustained energy without the sharp spikes and crashes associated with refined sugar.
What Yuka cannot measure is how those sugars behave once consumed. Dr. Coy’s bars use carefully selected sugars that are designed to provide sustained energy, without the sharp spikes and crashes associated with refined sugars. The app cannot measure your blood sugar response nor can it recognise that the sugars that we use are tooth-friendly, as they are not broken down in the mouth but further along in the digestive system.
We’re proud to be the first chocolate manufacturer to include galactose in chocolate - part of what makes our product patented and truly functional.
Functional chocolate goes beyond what an algorithm can score. 🍫
As good for you as it tastes😋
