Have you ever felt like you were meant for something different, something more aligned with your heart?

For years, I worked in corporate tech. I loved parts of it, but deep down, I always wondered … Is this really it? When I was impacted by layoffs, it felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. But looking back, that pause was the gift I didn’t know I needed.

In this week’s episode of the podcast, I chat with Niamh Cassidy about what it really looked like to walk away from a ā€œreal jobā€ and step into birthwork.

šŸŽ§ We talk about:

šŸŒ€ The emotional rollercoaster of leaving a steady job.

šŸ’ Fears around identity, income & what others might think.

šŸŽ Why an unexpected pause opened the door to something more meaningful.

šŸ› ļø How I used my corporate skills to build a purpose-led business that supports parents and families.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering ā€œAm I mad to even consider this?ā€, this might be the nudge or the pep talk you’ve been waiting for.

Yesterday, just before 6pm, I had the absolute honour of witnessing a powerful and beautiful birth. This incredible woman brought her baby boy into the world with so much strength, trust, and connection. She was completely in tune with her body, following her instincts every step of the way.

After labouring at home, she arrived at the hospital just two hours before giving birth. She knew exactly what she needed and, just as importantly, what she didn’t. She moved, breathed, and rested in a way that honoured her body and her baby. What a powerful reminder of what’s possible when women feel safe and supported.

Her partner was right by her side, holding the space with love, calm, and presence. A truly beautiful team.

It was also a joy to work alongside one of the at the who honoured her wishes with such kindness and respect, bringing calm to every moment. This birth was such a beautiful example of what can unfold when birthing people are listened to, trusted, and surrounded with care.

Huge congratulations to this wonderful couple on the birth of their beautiful baby boy. What a gentle and empowering start to life. He couldn’t have asked for a better welcome.

If you’re expecting and wondering what doula support could look like for you, I’d love to chat. Every journey is unique, and you deserve support that’s as individual as you are.

Thank you so much to the lovely North Wicklow Women’s Shed for having me.

It was such a joy to share my story and speak about what it means to be a Birth & Postpartum Doula. We talked about the shift from corporate life to following my true passion—supporting families during one of the most powerful and tender times of life.

I loved the warmth, curiosity, and brilliant questions from everyone in the room. Community spaces like this are so special, and I’m really grateful to be part of it.

Thank you again for the invitation and the lovely welcome!

A huge Thank You to Anke Roth Doula for meeting with our Shed members yesterday.

Anke spoke about being a Birth & Postpartum Doula and how after many years in the Corporate world she decided to follow her true passion: supporting families during childbirth and the precious postpartum time. Anke is also passionate about providing evidence-based information alongside emotional and physical support.

Thanks Anke for an extremely interesting and informative session. We were delighted that you could join us.

I’m beyond proud, and let’s be real, a little emotional, to share that I’ve been named a finalist in the Emerging Businesswoman category with Network Ireland Wicklow Branch.

Less than 18 months ago, running my own business felt like a far-off dream. A ā€œmaybe somedayā€ kind of idea I quietly carried (usually while folding laundry or stuck in traffic šŸ˜„).

Fast forward to today: I’m officially a business owner supporting families through one of life’s biggest transitions.

Leaving behind 25+ years in the corporate world was no small leap. I traded structure, teams, and regular pay for total uncertainty, solo decision-making, and Googling everything.

But I leaned into what I knew: coaching, mentoring, crisis management, and active listening.

I trained as a Birth and Postpartum Doula, supporting families from pregnancy through the fourth trimester.

I became a Parenting Journey Coach, helping parents feel more confident and less alone.

And I brought my corporate brain into consulting, helping companies build family-friendly workplaces and support parents returning to work.

I also dove headfirst into upskilling: coaching certifications, bookkeeping, LGBTQ+ inclusion, premature birth support, Paediatric First Aid ... you name it. I worked with brilliant mentors and business coaches. I built a strong support system. And I kept going, because I knew this work mattered.

None of this would’ve been possible without my people:

🧔 My amazing family – You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.

🧔 Marie-Louise, Deborah & Niamh from Network Ireland – Thank you for nudging me to put myself forward.

🧔 The incredible Krysia Lynch - Dublin Doula, doula, mentor, teacher & friend – Your support means the world.

🧔 And the brilliant team at the Entrepreneurs Academy – You gave me the tools and confidence to make this dream real.

What once felt like a roadblock has become the most meaningful journey of my life.

Now, I get to support others through their transitions, whether that’s life with a new baby, a career shift, or chasing a dream that once felt just out of reach.

✨ One Year of Friendship ✨

A year ago, I signed up for the Befriending Programme with .ireland, thinking I would be supporting someone who might need a bit of company. Turns out, I gained a wonderful friend.

Every Friday, I visit my 89-year-old friend, and honestly, it’s one of the highlights of my week. We chat about everything and nothing, we laugh a lot, and somehow, time always flies. It’s a simple thing; just showing up, sharing a cuppa, being there. But it means so much to both of us.

It’s funny how life works. You think you’re giving, but you end up receiving just as much, if not more.

As a Doula and Parenting Journey Coach, I see this all the time. Having the right support makes all the difference, whether you’re welcoming a new baby or just needing a friendly face to brighten your day. We all need connection. We all need someone who listens.

Here’s to many more ā€œfriendversariesā€ ahead!

And if you’ve ever thought about joining a Befriending Programme or just reaching out to someone who might need a little company, do it! You never know what kind of friendship might be waiting for you. šŸ’›

✨ From Corporate Life to Doula – What a Journey! ✨

Last Tuesday, I had the absolute pleasure of sharing my story with the North Wicklow Women's Shed. We talked about how I transitioned from the corporate world to becoming a birth and postpartum doula, what inspired me to take the leap, and all the things I’ve learned along the way—some expected, some surprising!

We also explored what a doula actually does and how having a birth or postpartum doula can make such a difference. It’s not about taking over—it’s about walking alongside families, offering support, reassurance, and a listening ear during one of life’s biggest transitions.

The best part? The incredible engagement from the group! Everyone got involved in the senses exercise and the Ice Cube challenge, showing how small things, like a calm voice or a reassuring touch, can completely shift an experience.

šŸ’› A huge thank you to everyone who came along, asked brilliant questions, and shared their own experiences. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful community and connection truly are.

I’d love to keep the conversation going! Have you ever had or considered doula support? Or maybe you have thoughts on big career transitions and following your passion? Drop a comment below or send me a message—I’d love to hear from you!

I did it! 🧔 Yesterday, I completed the Walk 80K in February challenge in support for .aid. But guess what? I ended up walking 175K with my best walking buddy, Spots! 🐾 Rain, hail, wind, or sunshine, we were out there every day, putting one foot in front of the other for this important cause.

A huge shoutout to my amazing friends Deborah Sudding , Marie-Louise Marshall , Jean Evans .ie, Rosemary Daynes Kearney, Louisa Meehan , Niamh Comber , and Sarah Ryan from , who also took on this challenge. Together, we’ve raised some much-needed funds for Women’s Aid, helping them continue their life-changing work.

Every euro raised helps provide:

šŸ“ž 24-hour helpline & online support for women in crisis.
šŸ¤ Face-to-face support for those experiencing domestic abuse.
šŸ’° Emergency financial assistance for essentials like food, clothes & security measures.
āš–ļø Court support & legal aid to help women seek protection.
šŸ„ Specialist programmes in maternity hospitals for women at risk.
aid also works hard to create a world where domestic abuse and violence against women are no longer tolerated. And every step we took this month helped make a difference.

🧔 To everyone who donated—THANK YOU! Your support is bringing hope, healing, and safety to women and children who need it most.

✨ It’s not too late to donate! If you’d like to support this incredible cause, you can still do so here: https://fundraising.womensaid.ie/fundraisers/ankeroth/walk-80k-in-february. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference!

After the amazing support for the Cold Swim for Women last month in aid of .aid I’ve been so inspired to keep going! This February, I’m walking 80K to continue raising awareness and funds for this incredible cause.

A massive thank you to everyone who has already donated! 🧔 Your kindness means so much, not just to me, but to the women and children who rely on Women’s Aid for safety, support, and hope.

In Ireland, 1 in 4 women experience abuse from someone they once loved and trusted. Every 5 minutes, someone reaches out to Women’s Aid for help. Thanks to donations like yours, women experiencing economic abuse or hardship can access life-changing support, including:

🧔 The Emergency Fund – covering essentials like groceries, clothing, and household items in times of crisis.

🧔 The Security Fund – helping women feel safe at home with things like CCTV, alarms, and changed locks.

🧔 The Legal Fund – providing access to legal advice and representation when it’s needed most.

If you’d like to get involved—whether by donating or just sharing this post—every little bit helps bring safety, hope, and a fresh start to those who need it most.
