Starting next Tuesday, September 23, at Thomastown Community Centre

Focus: Gentle, beginner and senior friendly practice. Kind yoga 🧘

Our sessions feature foundational poses designed to be accessible for seniors and newcomers. A popular and adaptable pose we teach is a gentle, full-body stretch that:

✅Targets shoulders, hamstrings, calves, and wrists
✅Encourages length in the arms and legs
✅Supports digestion and bone health
✅Aids in stress relief and mental calm

This sequence is chosen for its safety and ease of modification, making it suitable for first-timers. I emphasise breath awareness, posture alignment, and gradual progression.

Adaptations and safety

I demonstrate ways to modify poses with props such as a chair, ensuring participants can practice with confidence and comfort. Those who are able can explore the classic ground version as they gain balance and strength.

If you’re new to yoga or returning after a break, this class offers a welcoming, low-pressure environment to start or restart your practice. I would love to see you there—bring a mat, comfortable clothing, and a willingness to learn. Or mats provided instudio. All classes are also available online anywhere in the world and suitable for both female and male.

🦋Understanding Piriformis Syndrome and Deep Gluteal Syndrome 🌀

Piriformis syndrome and deep gluteal syndrome are often misunderstood — and, except in rare cases, they don’t actually happen the way most people think. 🤔

True sciatic nerve compression by the piriformis would feel like sitting on the toilet too long — numbness, tingling, or burning down your leg along the sciatic nerve’s path. 🔥🦵 But in most cases, the symptoms come from somewhere else.
Most common source: irritation of a nerve or structure in the lower back, leading to referred or radicular pain into the butt, thigh, or leg. 🧠➡️🦵
Second most common culprit: the hip joint. Conditions like hip osteoarthritis can send pain into the thigh, knee, and even the shin or calf. 🦴🔻

What to look for ✅
If your pain travels down the leg in a dermatomal pattern or worsens with spinal movements, the issue may originate higher in the spine. 🧭
If hip movements or hip-specific tests reproduce symptoms, the hip joint or surrounding soft tissues could be contributing. 🟰

📍Shakshuka with Feta, Pomegranate, and Fresh Herbs

What you need:
✅ 1 red organic onion, thinly sliced
✅ 1 red bell pepper, sliced
✅ 2 cloves purple garlic, finely chopped
✅ 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
✅ 1 teaspoon ground cumin
✅ 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes
✅ 4 large organic eggs

To serve:
✅ Feta cheese, crumbled
✅ Fresh red chili, sliced
✅ Pomegranate seeds
✅ Fresh parsley, chopped
✅ Lemon zest

What to do:
Thinly slice the red onion and bell pepper.
Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and red pepper with a pinch of salt. Cook for about 5 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.
Stir in the smoked paprika, ground cumin, and garlic; cook for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
Pour in the chopped tomatoes with a splash of water, season with a bit more salt, and let it simmer gently for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
Make four small wells in the sauce and carefully crack an egg into each. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 2-3 minutes until the egg whites are set but the yolks remain runny.
Season the eggs lightly with salt and pepper.
Garnish with crumbled feta, sliced chili, pomegranate seeds, chopped parsley, and a touch of lemon zest.
Serve hot with toasted, buttery sourdough bread.
