Danger Beware of bull

This notice really reminded me to watch my internal voice. Watch those negative thoughts. Beware of bull!!!
We cannot change the past or control the future, but we can change our perception of it.
No amount of beating ourselves up about the past can change the past. No amount of worry will change the future.

So, watch those negative thoughts. If a negative thought pops into your head, ask yourself

• What evidence is there for this thought?
• Is the answer - no evidence - take action! Change it - what thought would be more useful.
• Is the answer - yes, there is evidence - take action! Change it -what thought would be more useful. Ask yourself can I change or control the situation? What action would be more useful in the situation.

As you become more aware of your thought process you will quickly learn to be
‘beware of the bull!!’

The perfect Holiday!
Recently on holidays, we got chatting about some amazing holidays that we have been on over the years. The conversation went something like this:

Me: ‘Remember that holiday we had in the south of France Kids? Wasn't it perfect?
Child #1: Yes Mum!!! I remember you putting hotdogs in the microwave and they exploded everywhere!!! Followed by full belly laughs from everyone!!

Not quite the response I was looking for ...

Me: ‘Remember the day we went to that lovely little village and the beautiful views on the drive?
Child #2: Yes, remember that massive truck stop and you went into the wrong bathroom and you got us little travel packs with a book and lots of cool stuff in them!
A TRUCKSTOP and me going into the men’s shower area is what they remember of that trip.
All stories that followed all the imperfect things that had happened while trying to create the perfect holiday from a parent's perspective!

Lesson Learned after all this time!

Stop striving to be a perfect parent

For me trying to be that perfect parent lead to harsh-judgment and lack of self-compassion. These little stories from my children showed me when I made mistakes and laughed it off or showed self-compassion to myself- These were the perfect moments. They were learning it's ok to make mistakes, to forgive yourself and move on and have some fun while doing it!

Are you worried about your children's reading over the summer?
Try this - Social learning.
Pick a topic that you and your little ones are interested in. For example; an animal, a city, where you are going on holidays - anything at all. Using the resources, you have at home or even better your local library, each of you research the topic. There is only one rule - Learn to teach each other!
Using keywords, facts and drawings, create a poster including all the information that you found interesting. You can use whatever arts and craft materials you have at home!
Now for the social learning part - Your little one explains what they have learned about the topic using their poster then you share what you have learned too. You can then share all the combined learnings to the rest of the family.
It's a lovely way to engage children with reading, writing and artwork.

Thanks to mBIT training for introducing me to this at the weekend. If you are interested in this concept look out for this book - Social. Why Our Brains Are Wired To Connect - Matthew Lieberman.

The power of thought

The power of thought

Your life begins with the thoughts in your mind. Become aware and only allow thoughts that serve you well.

Positive thoughts + a plan = positive outcome!!

Positive thoughts + a plan = positive outcome!!

What happens in your life is directly related to where you place your attention. Where your energy goes your life will flow.
Become aware of the thoughts you are thinking, be open to all the possible that are before you, and then decide on a course of action.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over day after day expecting a different result.
Everything begins with the thoughts in your mind.

The fastest way to change your life is to change your thinking.

Are you planning for positive results, or just hoping something good will happen?
Hope and plans go hand in hand.

Hope is the start of change. Let the positive thought be the start of change. Hope is the start to finding the solution to your situation, but solutions need a clear plan and concrete action.

So, move beyond passing positive thoughts about change and start taking small actions, small steps.

The dreamer, the realist, The critic.

Have a think about that little voice that's in your head. Is it a dreamer, is it a realist or is it a critic?
Which is directing your world?

We need all three of these to play a role in our thought process. Each voice has a role to play in how we interact with our environment, make decisions, set goals. The problem is we allow one of them to take over. We need all three to succeed.
If you are trying to set a goal for yourself - give these questions a try!

The dreamer -The voice of all things possible!!
What do you want?
What are the benefits?
What is the time frame?
What are the outcomes?

The Realist - The one who creates the plan!
What are the steps in the plan? First step, second step, etc, etc.
What is the timeline on each step.
How will you know when you reach your goal?

The Critic- The one who points out the flaws in the plan?
How will all the steps fit together?
Do all the parts fit with the overall goal?
How possible is this within the time frame?
What's missing?

Now with all the answers you can create a meaningful goal with a realistic plan of action.
This is a shortened version of an NLP technique called the Disney Strategy. One of many techniques to help set clear goals. If you would like further help with any goal setting, I am happy to help.

Your inner voice can be your greatest friend or your worst enemy. That’s up you.

Updating our Brain

We are asked every couple of weeks to update our phones. If you are like so many people, we tend to ignore it.

’Not the right time, I'm in the middle of something. I need my phone now. I will do it later’.

Over time we notice our phone is slowing down, not as responsive as usual. Then it stops working. Then we remember that update. We ignored all the warning signs now we are in trouble. It takes just that little longer to get it up and running again. Why didn’t we just update when we were asked to?

Do we put our mental health, our emotional wellbeing on the bottom of the’ to do’ list? Do we ignore the warning signs? How about if we deal with things before they slow us down or stops us in our tracks.

How about updating our brains?
Whatever way you decide to do your update connect to the process, commit to the process for you and show compassion to yourself. Don't be afraid to try something new. If something isn't working for you, follow your instinct, follow your gut. Remember it's not failure changing something that's not working for you. It's all feedback, helping you to find the right update! You will know when you are on the right page.

This is your update notification. Don’t ignore it.

Pilates for the brain.

If you have ever tried a Pilates class, you know that it stretches and lengthens your muscles. What if there was something for your brain. Something to change your thought process.
Give this a go!

Are you trying to make a decision in your life at the moment? Try these questions. Say the answers out loud or even better write them down.

What would happen if you achieved your goal/outcome?
What would happen if you didn't achieve your goal/outcome?

Easy so far - yep! Now here's where we bend the mind!

What wouldn’t happen if you achieved your goal/outcome?
What wouldn't happen if you didn't achieve it?

These four questions are designed to give you all the possible consequences. Give you a new way of looking at what you are trying to achieve or a problem that you are faced with. Stretch your thought process. I love using these questions with clients. First there is confusion - then the answers surprise them. The answers give them new insights into the decision.

Remember you have all the answers, sometimes it's about asking the right questions to find them!
