That’s a wrap for the 2025 Triathlon season.
Last Sunday September 21st, I travelled to Ballyhaas to take part in their Sprint Triathlon.
It was my 5th time doing this race and I just love it. The Swim 🏊‍♂️ in the amazing clean, calm, blue green water is an epic experience.
750m swim 🏊‍♂️ 14:20
T1 🏊‍♂️ to 🚴 2:14
19KM Bike 🚴 34:42
T2 🚴to 🏃‍♂️ 1:39
5KM Run 🏃‍♂️ 17:41
Finish Time 1 hour 10 minutes 38 seconds
Finished 9th place out of 169 finishers.
I went out a bit too hot on the swim 🏊‍♀️ and struggled to keep the pace but was happy with my swim leg.
Transition from the swim to the bike was long and I lost a bit of time getting the wetsuit off but nothing major.
The bike leg was fun, lots of ups and downs, turns and straight stretches too. I pushed hard trying to get myself up the field. The weather and conditions were perfect for the bike.
Transition from the bike to run went smoothly and I was on the run, my plan was to hold back a little on the first mile as there is a huge hill leading into Cecilstown at the end of the first mile and then it’s down and flat from there so time can be made up in the back half of the run 🏃‍♂️, so I did that and I pushed and flew home. Buzzing to get a top 10 finish. But the best part of the day was having my family there to see me push and race and do what I love.
My plan for the winter is strength focused and try to get the body stronger and more resilient ahead of next season.
As well as progressing myself with my Yoga and Pilates classes- I’m blessed that I have these classes as they provide the foundation to my fitness.
I may do a Half Marathon in December but I’m going to wait a week or two before deciding.

On Saturday September 6th 2025, I managed to run 🏃‍♂️ my first sub 20 minute 5K at the Clonmel Parkrun in a time of 19 minutes 55 seconds.
The journey to a sub 20 minute 5K here started on the 5th of August 2018 when I got hit by a car 🚗 and ended up with a broken Hip and leg 🦵!!
Several surgeons and physios told me that I’d never run again!
But I threw myself into Yoga, Pilates and Strength Training for the next 2 and a half years, getting stronger and more mobile as time passed. I never doubted I’d return to running.
In 2021, I started running again, very slowly. It was 6 months of slow progress before I could run 30 minutes pain free.
In October 2021, I found Parkrun and started racing again. In 2017, I had ran a 5k in 19 minutes 44 seconds and the idea of ever getting there again was a distant dream!
In April 2022, I ran my first ever Parkrun in Clonmel in a time of 22 minutes 20 seconds and this was an all out effort. Then over the next 3 and a half years I slowly chipped away on it.
In September 2023, I ran 20 minutes 54 seconds. This was the first time I ran under 21 minutes for 5k since my accident.
In October 2024, I ran 20 minutes 40 seconds pushing Aaron in the buggy, the first buggy Parkrun in under 21 minutes.
In June 2025, I ran it in 20 minutes 31 seconds and then finally on the 6th of September I ran it 19 minutes 55 seconds. This was the 49th time I ran the Clonmel Parkrun!
This progress was achieved by consistency.
Slowly building running volume and speed.
Constantly focusing on my Yoga, Pilates and Strength training.
If I can do this then anyone can achieve anything they set their mind to!!
