Mindful Mindset Creative Mindfulness Classes for kids

Last week, in our Creative Mindfulness Classes, we explored the beautiful theme "I Am Human" inspired by the wonderful book I Am Human: A Book of Empathy by Susan Verde ❤️

After reading the story together, we talked about what it means to be human. We shared how every one of us is learning and growing every day. Sometimes we make mistakes. Sometimes we get hurt or hurt others. But we can say sorry, we can learn, and we can choose compassion ❤️

Each child held a little red crystal heart in the palm of their hand. They looked closely and noticed the light, the reflections, and the way it sparkled ✨️ Then they gently closed their hands. Even though they could no longer see the heart, they knew it was still there ❤️

Just like our real hearts ❤️ We can't see each other's hearts, but we know they are there ❤️

And because of that, we can choose kindness.
We can treat ourselves and others with care.
We can remember that every person we meet has feelings, hopes, and a heart that deserves kindness ❤️

We then decorated large jigsaw pieces 🧩 each decorated in our own unique designs. Celebrating how unique we all are, while also reminding us that although we are all different, we are also all connected ❤️

A little reminder from our class:

✨️ We are human
✨️ We are learning
✨️ We are growing
✨️ We can make mistakes and say sorry
✨️ We can choose compassion

A small heart in our hands ... but a big reminder in our hearts ❤️

My heart was so full after each of the classes ❤️
When we remember that everyone has a heart, the world becomes a kinder place 🌎🧩✨️❤️

This week in our New Thursday Creative Mindfulness Class, we explored the wonderful book ~ The Colour Monster 💛💙❤️💚🩶🩷

We talked about those moments when we feel all mixed up and confused with our emotions and how important it is to notice, name, and gently untangle what's going on inside 😵‍💫

The story reminds us that when we bring awareness to our feelings, we can also invite in more calm, clarity, and kindness into our lives 🩷

The children created their own cardboard "feelings jars" just like in the book to give each emotion its own space and colour 💛💙❤️💚🩶🩷

It was a wonderful creative session full of curiosity, sharing, and learning 😊

I love that the children were so proud of their beautiful artwork ✨️🙌

🎈This week in our Creative Mindfulness Classes, we explored the beautiful book ~ When Things Aren't Going Right, Go Left! ↩️

We followed the journey of a little boy in the story as he set his worries, fears, and frustrations down 💼 📦🧳Only later to discover something powerful, when he was ready to pick them back up, they were smaller, quieter, and much more manageable 🙌 He learned that it was okay to have them with him, so long as he kept an eye on them and that if they became too loud or overwhelming, he could set them down again 💼📦🧳

The children then had fun creating a hot air balloon using a paper plate, cup, and straws🎈We talked about how the hot air balloon rises higher when it lets go of its sandbags. We imagined our worries, fears, and frustrations as sandbags weighing us down🎈 and then we practised 'letting go' so we could rise higher 🙌

We finished with a breathing practice, moving our balloons up and down as we noticed our breathing 🌬

🎈Breathing in ... rising up 🎈
🎈Breathing out ... gently floating down 🎈

It was such a simple, playful way to help children discover that feelings come and go and that we don't have to carry them with us or be weighed down by them 💼📦🧳 We can choose to let them go 🎈🙌

✨️ I received an exciting new delivery of doTERRA essential oils along with the sweetest little mini diffuser this week 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

Our sense of smell is directly connected to the parts of the brain that support memory, emotion, and calm 🧠

When the children walk into class and notice the gentle aroma in the room, it helps them pause… breathe… and signals a time to reflect, create, and simply be 🤗

Smell is one of the fastest ways to anchor us in mindfulness. A single breath can ~

🌿 Help regulate big feelings
🌿 Support focus and concentration
🌿 Create a sense of safety and comfort

I love how the children notice when I use a new scent and how parents want to stay in the room it smells so nice 💜

Does your mind ever feel like it's so busy jumping from thought to thought, just like a monkey swinging from tree to tree 🌳🐒🌳

Last week marked the start of our new 6 week Creative Mindfulness Term 🤗

I introduced the children to the idea of the "busy monkey mind " 🧠🐒

The children loved bringing this idea to life by making their own little monkeys, attaching them with string to two paper straw trees, and sliding them from one side to the other 🌳🐒🌳 A simple craft but such a powerful visual reminder to take home 🤗

We talked about how our monkey mind isn't "bad" and that we're not trying to stop our mind from thinking 💭🤔 but when we need it to be still and calm we can gently give it a job to do like ~ noticing our breathing 🌬 or listening to sounds around us 🎶 all helping us to be in the here and now 🤗

It was a fun class and really special to introduce mindfulness to so many new children. I look forward to seeing how their practice grows over the next few weeks ❤️

I didn't manage to take even one photo during the class 🙈 we were having that much fun 😄

❤️ With Valentine's Day this week, in our Creative Mindfulness Classes, we spoke about showing kindness ❤️

During our discussion, we began talking about times when it could feel hard to be kind. One by one, several children bravely shared moments when others had not been kind to them and how upsetting that felt 🥺

What followed was a truly tender and beautiful conversation. The other children responded with empathy, care, and understanding. It was powerful to see them listen to one another and offer comfort so naturally ❤️

We also talked about how, when people are unkind, it often has very little to do with us and much more to do with what they may be going through. Together, we practised sending kind wishes ~ firstly to ourselves 🫶 then to our families 🫂 our community ❤️ our country 🇮🇪 and finally to the whole world 🌎 It was magical ✨️

During the class, the children created a heart bouquet as a symbol of spreading kindness to others 💐 At the end of our time together, we used bubbles 🫧 as a joyful and playful way to send kind wishes out into the world 🌬🫧🌎❤️ Each bubble representing small acts of kindness that together can make a big difference ❤️💚💙🩷💜💛🩵🩶

It was a very special week and one I will remember for a long time 🥰 Kindness truly is a superpower ~ It makes us strong 🙌

⭐️ Fun Worry Monster Craft ⭐️

We had some very meaningful and heartfelt conversations about worry last week ❤️

We spoke about the stories our brain tells us when worry comes to visit 🧠😟

I shared my all-time favourite book for children about worry ~ Ruby's Worry 📖 and we discussed the power of talking about our worries to a friend or family member 😟

I just love how each of these worry monsters are so individual, just like our worries ❤️

⭐️ The first week of our new 8 week term ⭐️

It was so wonderful to meet the new and returning students in our three classes this week 🙌

We had a lot of fun as we became Emotion Explorers 🔎 Just as a magnifying glass helps us notice and explore details, we discussed how mindfulness can help us notice and explore our emotions with curiosity and kindness ❤️

The children used the new magnifying glasses to first explore their own hand ✋️ noticing all the fine lines and curves 🔎 Then we explored some everyday objects, and the children were fascinated by the details they could see 👀 that they hadn't noticed before 🔎

Then we read 'Sometimes' a book about feelings. The children had to listen carefully, and every time they heard an emotion, they put the magnifying glass 🔎 up to their eye 👁 There were lots of giggles during this activity as you can imagine 😊

The children then got creative, making their own colourful mindfulness magnifying glass 🔎 to take home as a reminder to pause and notice their emotions with curiosity and kindness 🔎❤️

As lovely as the Christmas holidays were, it's so wonderful to be back teaching Creative Mindfulness based on the Creative Mindfulness Kids Training 🥰
