The Achilles tendon is a strong fibrous cord that connects the muscles in the back of your calf to your heel bone. If you overstretch your Achilles tendon, it can tear (rupture) completely or just partially.

Surgery is often performed to repair the rupture. For many people, however, nonsurgical treatment works just as well. These are some of the exercises we utilise to strengthen and rehab the Achilles tendon. For more information DM us.

As we return to exercise after Xmas, the hamstrings can be very susceptible to injury, and people who participate in sports that involve running or sprinting are prone to developing tightness or injury in these muscles.

Stretching the hamstrings daily will help keep these muscles loose and flexible, which will improve posture, increase flexibility, and prevent lower back pain.

Try these easy to follow exercises to keep your muscles loose and avoid muscle strains.

Neck pain can come from a number of disorders and diseases and can involve any of the tissues in the neck. It is estimated 1 in 3 people are affected a year - more common in women.

Signs and symptoms include:

- Pain that's often worsened by holding your head in one place for long periods, such as when driving or working at a computer

- Muscle tightness and spasms

- Decreased ability to move your head

- Headache

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints.

Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight, which puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage. Stretching on a regular basis can help increase your range of motion, improve posture, physical performance and circulation across the body.

Try this simple, yet effective stretching routine. Stretching takes up only about 10-15 minutes of your time, but it can greatly add to your overall performance and increase the efficiency of your day to day life. Aim for a program of daily stretches at least three or four times per week.

⭐ Text Neck ⭐

"Text neck" is a term describing repeated stress injury and pain in the neck, from excessive watching or texting on handheld devices over a sustained period of time. Flexing the head forward to use a smart phone affects the spine directly.

𝘚𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘴 =

🔸𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: soreness and difficulty moving the neck

🔸𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻: localized to one spot or multiple; primarily in lower neck.

🔸𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻: pain referring down into shoulders & arms

🔸𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀: sub-occipital muscle tightness can lead to tension headaches

🔸𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Shoulder muscles like trapezius, rhomboids & external rotators are often weak

⭐ Flat feet ⭐

Flat feet happen when the arch of the foot collapses and comes into near-complete contact with the ground (𝙁𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝).

This can cause arch pain, which refers to an inflammation and/or burning sensation at the arch of the foot, spreading along the bottom from your heel bone to toes, otherwise known as 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨.

Symptoms include:

🔸 A Stabbing pain in the early morning under the foot (closest to heel).
🔸 Pain gets better during the day with movement, and then worse again at night time.
🔸 Limited range of motion and pain when walking.
🔸 Pain in the calf muscles

Treatment includes a combination of othrothic therapy, specialised exercises to prevent the problem from worsening, and lots and lots of stretching!

𝑺𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈:

- Support your back
- Adjust your chair
- Rest feet flat on floor
- Position key board at a comfortable level
- Make items an accessible distance away
- Take regular breaks

𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈:

- Keep shoulders back, chest out, and head upright
- Bear weight primarily on the balls of your feet
- Stand straight & tall, with arms hanging naturally
- Wear shoes that provide comfort and support
