Try Acupuncture instead of my GP? But that's just for pain, right?
WRONG!!!
Here are the top questions we get asked.... (warning! its a long one ๐)
1.What can Acupuncture treat?
General rule of thumb - If your condition can improve even slightly, Acupuncture can treat it. The most common things we treat are (adults) insomnia, migraine, anxiety, digestive issues, hormonal issues, pain, fertility, coughs/colds and allergies. (Babies/Children/teens) reflux, colic, poor sleeping, hormonal issues, bed wetting, anxiety and sensory processing issues. Did you know that in China, the hospitals have their own Acupuncture Departments!
2. Does it hurt?
The needles are hair thin, not at all like the big ones used for taking blood, and their insertion is virtually painless. Some people feel a warmth or dull ache around the site of the needle after insertion or a pulling sensation, which are all brief. Once all needles are in place people feel a sense of deep calm and relaxation - a day dream like state. (We call this an "ACU - NAP"! ๐ด๐ด) (for pediatrics there are different methods using no needles)
3. Are there risks?
Our licensed acupuncturists have undergone extensive needle training in technique and safety which leaves the risk of any side affects very small. The most common side affects are slight bruising around the site of needle insertion or some people may feel dizzy during or after the session
4.How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your ailment and how long you have had it. In general chronic issues take longer to treat then say a cold.Your acupuncturist will be working to restore your body's balance and activate your bodies own healing mechanism it can take time to notice results. We advise weekly treatments for 4 to 6 weeks before deciding if you think Acupuncture is helping.
A lot of our clients continue with treatments long after their original issue has gone, benefiting from the overall balancing of mind and body, feeling revived after a session๐ฟ๐
