Local poet is Bard Out Of His Mind with new creative business launch.

The Bard Out Of My Mind launch takes place in the beautiful Wild Flower Café between 2- 5pm on Saturday the 9th of December in the Butler Gallery Kilkenny city.

The countdown to Xmas is on and a new creative Kilkenny based business has the perfect home grown gift. Bard Out Of My Mind is a poetry business established by Gareth Hanlon at the tail end of 2023. It was following a number of critically acclaimed open mic performances at the Alternative Kilkenny Arts festival in August and the launch of his self-published poetry book, “Too Bard Out Of My Mind”, that Gareth decided to set up an experiential poetry based business.

One of the first pieces written for this new venture was ‘Cill Chainnaigh’. From its opening line, ‘Irelands True capital The Marble city I asked?’, to its closing, ‘Visit Smithwick’s brewery for a few red Ales, Kilkenny Cats laugh, while spinning their tales’.
Gareth manages to capture the charm and attractions of Kilkenny with an easy going light-heartedness and relevance.

In his own words, “I have createdan interesting collection of rhyming wisdom to entertainnear and afar. The nuanced cadence of each poetic flavouring combines observation, wisdomand layers of understanding to inspire and cultivate new thinking”, Gareth enthuses. I wanted to write pieces that would be of interest to tourists in relation to their experiences while inIreland.

Bard Out Of My Mind has three distinct poetic stylings. There are poems based on the unique features of cities in Ireland with a hint of fun added to the mix. There are also regional poems referencing the wider attractions and experiences of Ireland. Then there is the rather quirky PoeTea collection. A series of poems based on the inherent benefits of drinking tea. Here, clever naming of each piece makes for fun and interesting reading, for example, PuriTea, TranquiliTea, LongeviTea and SereniTea, to name but a few. “I particularly like the decorative PoeTea collection and I believe these will become excellent conversation pieces in the variouscafes across Ireland”, Gareth explains.

“While the poems are interesting for tourists as a keepsake of their visit to Ireland. They also have an appeal for locals and the extended Irish Diaspora”, says Gareth. The poems will be available online via www.boomm.ie from January 2024.

To purchase before Xmas, pop along to the launch in the beautiful Wild Flower Café between 2-5pm on Saturday the 9th of December in the Butler Gallery Kilkenny city.

All collections can be viewed on the website and contact Gareth directly on 0858830071 to make any direct enquiries.

Harpists Gathering at Grianán of Aileach fort in Co. Donegal, 3rd Aug ‘23.
The harp is a revered National symbol of Ireland. It is used very effectively in Sound Therapy.

In Irish mythology, the Dagda’’s Harp had the Three Noble Strains of music bound into it. Each strain had a different effect on the listener:

🎼 Goltraí “dirges or laments”. The sorrow strain caused people to weep
🎼 Geantraí “joy music”, from gean- (“smile, affection”) + -traí
The joy strain incited merriment
🎼 Suantraí “lullaby”, from suan- (“sleep, slumber”) + -traí
The sleep strain lulled people to slumber.

“More than 60 of Ireland’s leading young harp players have gathered at the ancient Grianán of Aileach fort in Co Donegal for an unprecedented assembly of harpists.

Harpists from all over Ulster as well as Co Louth played at the fort which overlooks the Derry-Donegal border on Thursday to promote Irish harp day later this year.

All 60 musicians also performed a special commission by Donegal harper Joleen McLaughlin at a recital at St Pius X’s church in Moville on Thursday evening.

The Cruinniú na gCruitirí (Harpers’ Gathering) was brought together by Cruit Éireann (Harp Ireland) along with renowned Inishowen musician, Clodagh Warnock.

The recitals also featured guest performances from Triona Marshall, harper with the legendary The Chieftains as well as Donegal musician and composer, Martin Tourish.

One of the royal sites of Gaelic Ireland, Grianán of Aileach is a ringfort overlooking Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle. “

Sadio Mane, a Senegalese soccer star, earns approximately $10.2 million annually. He gave the world a rude awakening after some fans were flabbergasted when they saw him carrying a cracked iPhone 11. His response was awesome:
"Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches, and two jet planes? I starved, I worked in the fields, played barefoot, and I didn't go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing. I have built schools and a stadium, provide clothes, shoes, and food for people in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people from a very poor Senegalese region in order to contribute to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips, and even planes. I prefer that my people receive some of what life has given me."
