This will be the 4th year for the event, the first All Ireland Skydive Challenge which took place in Kilkenny Airfield on the 10th of Sept 2011 - World Su***de Prevention Day. We managed to raise €15,807 Euros which was a lifeline to some su***de prevention groups at the time. The 2nd event took place in Waterford in 2012 where the Limerick Team stole the show with a fabulous effort and all in all we raised €21,807 for 3 Su***de Prevention charities and helped spread the word that " it's Ok not to feel Ok".. This year we want to make this event BIGGER AND BETTER so we are asking that everyone who wishes to take this "Giant Leap" for su***de prevention try raise a target amount of €507 with a minimum of €375. Euros including a €50.00 deposit which is non-refundable. Our target is for 107 people to take their "Leap of Faith" and help raise a target of roughly €25,807
This money will be shared between Pieta House and Cycle Against Su***de and one other Mental Health org TBC later. All 32 Counties in Ireland are to compete for the All Ireland Skydive Challenge and the Niall Galvin Memorial Trophy that currently sits in Limerick, but I hear the Dubs are hiding in the long grass to bring both Trophy's back to sit with Sam. This is not to see who is the best skydiver in Ireland as it's all Tandem but more importantly which county can rally their troops enough to say " It's ok not 2 be ok, and its absolutely Ok to ask for help BUT it's NOT ok to sit back and watch our young people, our old people or someone, somewhere in the middle SCREAM for help and to feel so low and with a loss of HOPE to take their own lives and the absolute devastation to those left behind left to deal with it. Last year probably over 600 poor souls lost their will to live in this beautiful land of ours...... A LITTLE ABOUT THE 2 WONDERFUL CHARITIES:-
Pieta House provides FREE su***de prevention counseling and self-harm counseling. Pieta has to be a shining light for all of us. Pieta was founded by Joan Freeman and a dedicated Team of trained Counselors and an ARMY of Volunteers. We wish them ALL the best for the Darkness into Light 5K Walk
Cycle Against Su***de is an awareness charity (CHY 20687) that makes a valuable contribution to the public education of mental health by changing the narrative surrounding su***de. When an individual is vulnerable enough to consider taking their own life, silence is read as indifference. With hundreds of people dying by su***de in Ireland each year and research indicating that thousands more contemplate it, we all have a role to play to collectively address the challenges that su***de presents. In a bid to save more lives, Cycle Against Su***de through its programs, sets out to change the culture and create a society that openly talks about su***de to allow people to speak up and seek help. IT’S OK NOT TO FEEL OK; AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY OK TO ASK FOR HELP’
