😰 “Is treatment painful?”
It’s one of the most common questions we hear, especially from people considering physical therapy for the first time; hands-on treatment like deep tissue techniques and dry needling, as well as modalities such as shockwave or electrotherapy can cause feelings of concern and anxiety for patients.
These treatments *can* sometimes create temporary discomfort, and that’s usually because they’re helping stimulate healing, improve mobility, and address the source of the injury — not just the symptoms.
BUT, with that said: your comfort always comes first.
The amount of pressure we use during any hands-on treatment is completely up to you.
We communicate throughout every session, work within your comfort threshold, and continuously adapt treatment based on your feedback. Nothing is ever forced, and we will never push beyond what you’re comfortable with.
Physical therapy should feel productive and purposeful, not painful or intimidating. It’s a collaborative process where we work with you every step of the way.
So no, physical therapy isn’t painful.
It’s personalized, respectful, and designed to help you heal, move better, and get back to what you love doing.
If fear of pain has been causing you to put off getting help, let that end right this second.
