The property with 16 acres, a stream and hundreds of mature trees is a natural haven. Of itself, a place of peace and connectedness. My intention here was for a place that would enhance yoga and meditation. Having taught yoga groups for over 23 years and run retreats for over 10 years at Sunyata Retreat Centre, I began finally teaching from home at An Seileastram Bui. Now I look forward to hosting retreats here too. All yoga I teach is a tribute to T. KRISHNAMACHARYA as taught by his son and pupil T.K.V. Desikachar for over 30 years. It is mostly with the latter's pupil of over 20 years, Paul Harvey, that I have studied. Other teachers that have influenced me are Angela Farmer and Victor von Kooten. Having taught groups for over 20 years and 1 to 1 for over 10 years, I began teaching individuals and subsequently groups classes of 10 people from home. Now, too, we will accommodate 8 people for small intimate retreats. For years meditation has been part of my life. Yoga is for me synonymous with meditation. Years of in-depth study of the yoga sutras and daily practice of meditation and pranayama have reinforced this view (so sadly missing in many modern schools of yoga). Over the last 2 years I have been studying buddhist meditation under Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche with the guidance of my dear friend Annelies von Haaren. This has been a great resource to me personally. I have also taken lessons in Alexander Technique over a 2 year period, with my friend Penelope Easten, which has been supportive to staying present to feelings and emotions and their relative patterns in the body. For the past 40 years, since I started practicing yoga, I have been a vegetarian which led soon to a keen interest in nutrition. This has continued and deepened over the past 10 years with an increasing interest in students' eating and drinking habits and the link to their mental clarity as well as their body and health profile. Nature has always been a tonic for my own well being. My own personal interest has been enhanced through shamanic studies with Katryna Kucheri and Carole Guyett. I am presently doing an apprenticeship in Plant medicine with Carole at Derrynagitta. So many dear friends have been influential and have enhanced my view and enriched my life as too my family. My mother began teaching yoga at age 70 years and continues to teach 2 classes a week at the age of 81. It is this work of offering all that has been given to me from others that makes An SEILEASTRAM BUÍ what it is and is to become. Nourishment and healing through yoga, wholistic nutrition and nature in a simple and beautiful environment is what I wish to offer at An Seileastram Buí.
