The Optical Suite formally Stack O'Brien Opticians have been in Killarney since 1994. Locally owned by Optometrist Diarmuid O’Sullivan, we provide quality eye care with the most up to date optical equipment. Our team are always on hand for all your optical needs. Our mission statement is "We are a dedicated team of professionals offering an optical service to all age groups, constantly striving to improve our performance."

The Truth:
1️⃣ Age is just a number: While common in seniors, factors like UV exposure, smoking, and diabetes can cause them earlier.
2️⃣ Laser technology is a game-changer: We can now correct astigmatism and near-vision during the same procedure.
3️⃣ Eye drops won’t cure them: Despite what some internet ads say, there is no “magic drop” to dissolve a cataract. Surgery is the only cure.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases in which the optic nerve - which connects your eye to your brain - is damaged by the pressure of the fluid inside your eye.

This may be because the pressure is higher than normal, or because the nerve is more susceptible to damage from pressure.

Glaucoma may affect one or both of your eyes and there are two main types of glaucoma - chronic and acute.

Chronic glaucoma happens slowly, acute glaucoma happens quickly and chronic glaucoma is much more common than acute glaucoma.

Feeling the strain from extended screen time?
You're not alone!
Prolonged use of phones, tablets and PCs can leave your eyes tried, dry and unfocused but a few simple habits can make a big difference.

Follow the 20‑20‑20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to relax your focusing muscles.

Blink more on purpose; screen use can cut your blink rate by about half, so consciously blinking and using lubricating drops if needed helps dryness and burning.

Limit non‑essential screen time when possible, especially long, uninterrupted sessions of two hours or more.

Ask us about anti reflective or blue light filtering lenses designed to ease eye strain.
