We have had an incredibly tough seven weeks transitioning our son into primary school. As parents who walk in our shoes, the devastation, ruptures and repairs are soul-destroying. A family can only take so much when enough becomes enough. Having spent ten years studying and learning from incredible teachers and lecturers in UCC and MTU on Social Policy, Inclusion, Family, Psychotherapy, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Neurodiversity and Mental Health have I empowered myself to know what is right. I have never settled for less when it comes to my children. But it is only by becoming a parent to a child who struggles to attend school, have I really learned how broken our systems are.
Now, I am going back to my UCC Family, tougher and wiser than ever. I cannot wait to bring what I've learned to the table amongst professionals who really do get it. I am so proud to be going back to a school that advocates and endorses Human Rights, Children's Rights, Mental Health Rights and the Right for every individual to be heard. And I'm going to come back stronger and louder, to show up for all children who are NOT BEING SERVED by paid professionals all across the Education Sector in Ireland.
