You know what’s misunderstood in healthcare?
Symptoms.

They’re treated like the problem.
Something to fight.
Something to silence.

But symptoms are not mistakes.

They’re signals.

They’re the body saying,
“Something needs attention.”

When you remove the symptom without addressing the cause,
you haven’t solved the problem —
you’ve just turned down the volume.

Chiropractic doesn’t ask,
“How do we silence this?”

B.J. Palmer reminded us that we rarely see the full ripple effect of our actions — but that doesn’t make them any less powerful. In chiropractic, we see this every day.

Ever notice how this time of year feels… a bit much?

Too much EATing, DRINKing, SHOPPing, SPENDing, WORRYing
and not enough RESTing, MOVing, or BREATHEing.

A good friend of mine once jokingly called this “ING Syndrome” —
and while it’s not a medical diagnosis, it perfectly describes how stress quietly builds up in the body.

When stress accumulates, the nervous system stays stuck in fight-or-flight.

Muscles tighten.
Energy drops.

For more than 100 years, chiropractic has been built on one powerful truth:

Thought on Thursday: Your Breath Is a Built-In Reset Button

Most people think stress is something that “happens” to them.
But the truth is… your nervous system decides how you experience your day — calm or chaotic, focused or frazzled.

And one of the quickest ways to influence that system is how you breathe.

Here are the three breathing exercises I use personally and teach in the clinic all the time — because they work.

1️⃣ 4–7–8 Breathing — Calm the Storm

In for 4 → Hold for 7 → Out for 8
The extended exhale is the magic here: it tells your brain you’re safe.
A slow, long exhale has even been shown in research to lower blood pressure by activating the parasympathetic (rest-and-repair) system.

2️⃣ 2-In / 1-Out — Switch Off Fight-or-Flight

Two sharp inhales through the nose →
One long, slow exhale
This pattern naturally shifts your physiology from stress mode into healing mode.

3️⃣ Box Breathing — Focus Over Frustration

In 4 → Hold 4 → Out 4 → Hold 4
Used by athletes and special forces to stay calm under pressure.
If your mind is racing, box breathing instantly brings you back to centre.

✨ Here’s the real thought for today:

You don’t need a gadget, an app, or the perfect environment.
You already have a tool that helps regulate your nervous system anytime, anywhere — your breath.

Use it.
Let it steady you.

here’s the perfect strategy:

• Live on sugar
• Avoid water at all costs
• Skip exercise completely
• Stay cross, reactive, and annoyed at everyone
• Pop pills to silence symptoms instead of fixing causes
• Keep your stress levels sky-high
• Sleep poorly and pretend it doesn’t matter
• Sit for hours without moving
• Breathe through your mouth all day
• Smoke whenever possible

Many people go years without noticing the small arrow on the fuel gauge that indicates which side the petrol cap is located. This is a perfect example of how easy it is to overlook something obvious… until someone brings it to your attention.

For decades, we were led to believe that our genes control everything about us — that our health is predetermined and cannot be changed.

Well, modern biology now suggests a different perspective.
