"Whatever is in me is stronger than what is out there to defeat me."
Caroline Myss
What a spell of weather we're having. Without doubt, it's real West of Ireland weather. Those of us who were born and raised on the Atlantic seaboard pride ourselves in our ability to maintain our good humour and indeed our sanity in the face of wet day after wet day. Years of endlessly wet winters have built a resilience in us. Staying upbeat during days and sometimes weeks of greyness and gloom becomes the ultimate endurance sport.
We constantly remind ourselves that, just like other challenges in our lives, this too will pass. We greet each wet day with an air of defiance..."I refuse to let this gloom drag me down." While outside may be grey and dismal, we are incredibly privileged to live in warm, cosy, bright and beautiful homes. Our fridges and presses are filled with nourishing food. We have all kinds of entertainment at our fingertips and every comfort we desire.
A dreary old winter's day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy all that is good in our lives. Winter, in the natural world is the time to be slow, to curl up and conserve energy. It's the perfect antidote to the constant rushing about and busyness of modern life. So let's take the opportunity to be kind to ourselves, enjoying the cosiness inside as we defiantly sing "let it rain, let it rain, let it rain."
