"Menopause is not an ending. It's a new beginning - a time to create your health, vitality and power."

Without a doubt, menopause is a time of change but, armed with the right information and a positive mindset, it becomes less daunting.

This 2-hour workshop is suitable for women in, or approaching peri-menopause and also women who are post- menopause. There are many health implications for us women after menopause eg increased increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis etc. Being aware of these risks and knowing how we can support our health is hugely beneficial.

"Those that can bend with the wind will weather the storm."

When the going gets tough, the tough head west and into the storm, to experience a different variety of rain! It's that time of year again whe my heart draws me home, regardless of the weather. While blue skies are certainly more appealing, the grey sky in this photo was so full of drama, I couldn't resist throwing a shape on the cliff edge.

Things don't always turn out as we would like and life has a way of throwing a spanner in the works but if we can bend and adapt to our changing circumstances, we can weather whatever storms come our way.

My Doolin weekend in the company of the wonderful was far more than just grey skies and rain. Over the weekend we experienced a glorious sunrise and sunset, blue skies, gusts, squalls and near hurricanes, drizzle and downpours. The sea was loud and boisterous and breathtakingly beautiful. Being exposed to the raw power of the natural world helps to remind us of our own power and resilience in the face of life's challenges.

It's a new month once again and longer evenings mean more time outdoors and more opportunities to connect with nature in all its glory.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

"To live is the rarest thing in the world, most people exist, that is all."

Time is incredibly precious and yet, how much thought do we give to the passing of time? How do we choose to spend our time? Do we use it wisely or do we spend endless hours eg mindlessly scrolling? Guilty I'm afraid!! which is why I am spending so little time on social media of late.

Over the last year I have become acutely aware of the passing of time and the importance of using that time to really live the life I love so I have tried to do more of the things that bring me joy. I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions but if I was, then my resolutions for 2026 would be.....more singing, more dancing, more yoga retreats ( attending them, not hosting them!) and lots more trips to the sea.

We only get one life to live, only one chance to use the precious time we have been gifted. If we were told we only had a certain amount of time left on this planet, how would we choose to spend that time? It's a sobering thought and maybe one we need to consider from time to time.

Let's do the things we would love to do and let's do them now! There are so many wonderful dreams to dream, places to see, experiences to be had. If we are open to life, it will richly reward us. This gloomy January evening is the perfect time to start planning....time is of the essence!

What a spell of weather we're having. Without doubt, it's real West of Ireland weather. Those of us who were born and raised on the Atlantic seaboard pride ourselves in our ability to maintain our good humour and indeed our sanity in the face of wet day after wet day. Years of endlessly wet winters have built a resilience in us. Staying upbeat during days and sometimes weeks of greyness and gloom becomes the ultimate endurance sport.

We constantly remind ourselves that, just like other challenges in our lives, this too will pass. We greet each wet day with an air of defiance..."I refuse to let this gloom drag me down." While outside may be grey and dismal, we are incredibly privileged to live in warm, cosy, bright and beautiful homes. Our fridges and presses are filled with nourishing food. We have all kinds of entertainment at our fingertips and every comfort we desire.

A dreary old winter's day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy all that is good in our lives. Winter, in the natural world is the time to be slow, to curl up and conserve energy. It's the perfect antidote to the constant rushing about and busyness of modern life. So let's take the opportunity to be kind to ourselves, enjoying the cosiness inside as we defiantly sing "let it rain, let it rain, let it rain."

"The forest guides us deep within,
to find our soul and live again."
Angie Weiland Crosby

Our forests are incredibly beautiful....layers and layers of minute details waiting to be noticed. After days of rain and greyness what a wonderful joy today's blue skies were. A blue sky day is a day to enjoy nature at its best.

I feel so blessed to live in the countryside, away from traffic and concrete and eternal busyness. A short walk brings me into the forest.....not my natural habitat, but nonetheless, one that has been a haven of peace and happiness for me over the past thirty years.

The magnificent trees, the beautiful ferns, the moss covered branches, the light and shade, the gushing waters, the sweet birdsong, the sights and scents of forest life never fail to lift my heart and fill me with gratitude for the fact that I am alive and healthy and happy.

Life hurts and nature heals. Time in nature is time well spent and science backs that up. The forecast is good for the week so let's make it a priority to get out and experience the benefit of nature for ourselves.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

"Life is too important to be taken seriously."
Oscar Wilde

I spotted this sign on my latest trip home to Clare last week and while I'm not condoning defacing road signs, it nonetheless made me laugh when I saw it. It is yet another example of Irish wit that has sustained me through many difficult times in my life. Without doubt, life can be a really serious business and I, for one, am certainly in favour of any opportunity to lighten the mood.

Winter can be an incredibly difficult time for some people. The darkness, the grey skies, the endless rain and the general doom and gloom can really affect our mood which is why we need to have a plan. How can we ensure that we keep our spirits lifted? Part of the answer lies in laughter. Where is the fun in our lives? Who are the people who make us laugh and keep our spirits lifted? Which activities release our happy hormones?

Let's be the masters of our own fate this winter. Be defiant....find the fun instead of succumbing to the winter blues. Don't take life so seriously...it's far too important for that!

Life can be far too serious and the older I get, the more I long for fun and playfulness both of which are incredibly good for the soul and are also really beneficial for brain health.

Our brains thrive on variety, new challenges, new experiences, new ways of moving. Having fun while doing this is the icing on the cake.

So go on, try something new or find a new way to do something you've always done. Play like nobody's watching or if somebody is watching , all the better. Remember, we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing.

"Embrace change. True success can be measured by your ability to adapt to changing circumstances."

And no, this is not a post about changing husbands and getting a new one! It is a post about the changing of the seasons and that lonely transition from summer to winter.

I have always greeted the first days of autumn with a feeling of sadness, a mourning of the passing of yet another carefree summer. The shortening of the days and the darkness that creeps in, fills me with a sense of dread. And yet, I grow to love the changing colours and scents, the frosty nip in the air, the cosiness of the fire being lit again.

Change is not always easy but it is inevitable. It is one of the certainties of life that nothing ever stays the same. So, we have a choice to either resist or embrace the changes we encounter in our lives. Which do you think will enrich our lives the most?

Meanwhile, above, the husband that I'm going to keep, is leaving summer behind and walking with a pep in his step, towards an autumn return to his Thursday, Yoga for Men class.

As summer draws to a close once more and we return to our routines and the busyness of our lives, we need to remember to be kind to ourselves. Yoga classes resume on Tues, September 2nd and Thurs, September 4th. They offer the perfect opportunity to pause and breathe and move and connect and of course...rest.
Take time to care for yourself...body, mind and spirit.
