Ballymacoda Book Club had a lovely meeting this evening, we discussed Somewhere Cold by Geraldine Osborne.
This book is the true story of how Geraldine Osborne a doctor, her husband an artist and their three young children left Ireland to live with an Inuit community in the high Artic for a year in 1989.
Only available in hardback and it's printed with very white pages which can be difficult for some people to read.
Nice to have photos throughout the book.
That said, the book does go into detail about everyday life living in an inuit community and the total darkness in winter with temperatures of -40 along with bringing up three young children.
We were disappointed with the lack of feelings from Geraldine, we would love to know how she was feeling in different situations.
She a tough lady with remarkable strength and resilience.
Well worth a read.
Our chosen book for May is Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabriel Zevin.
Our next meeting is Thursday 4th June, 7.00pm Finn's Tavern Ballymacoda.
All Welcome.

It's always great to see the artwork and listen to the music in the lovely venue of Cloyne Cathedral.

Looking forward to it.

Just a little insight into our Community Sensory Garden.
Grà Agus Folláine promotes health and wellbeing in the community, we wanted to create a Community Sensory Garden where nature, wellbeing, and community connection thrive.
Our Community Sensory Garden Group works hard to look after the garden, plan future planting and come up with ideas for funding, we have some experienced experts on the group, we all learn from each other, this week we welcomed two new members.
We are working in partnership with Ladysbridge Tidy Towns, we applied for and was successful with funding from Cork County Council AMENITY FUND and also Tesco Youghal Community Fund.
We started last summer with four half barrel planters being installed and planted up at the garden site, two of which are sponsored by Five Roads Ladysbridge.
This year we have plans for a water feature, bat box and Bird box and also planting more plants to stimulate the senses and encourage Butterflies and Bees.
Three Irish Crab Apple Trees will be planted in November, please let us know if you would like to sponsor a tree.
Herb Trough sponsored by The Thatch Ladysbridge has been planted this week.
There is an open afternoon planned for this summer, which will include workshops and children's art activities, date to be confirmed.
The garden is situated at the Picnic Area on Garryvoe Road, a lovely peaceful place for a picnic, meditation or just sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the garden, throughout the year.
If you would like get involved, please contact: Stella 087 182 1158

Grà Agus Folláine our group name means Love and Wellbeing, we wanted to promoted the Irish language by having an Irish name for our group.
Comhrà Cois Tine! Irish Conversation by the Fire, started as a one off session for St Patrick’s Day, everyone who came along enjoyed it so much they asked for it to be a monthly meeting, which it now is, meeting once a month in The Thatch Ladysbridge, dates posted here.
We welcome everyone, from fluent to new to the language and everyone in-between.
A really great way to keep up your Irish language skills or start learning.
