A worry is a feeling of unease, fear, or nervousness when thinking about unpleasant things. It is a type of thinking, often about something that might happen in the future, leaving you feeling frightened, nervous, or anxious.
Some people call it worry, fear, or stress. Of course, everybody experiences fears; It's a natural response to change or challenge and is usually short lived. However, if you are starting to feel worried more often or can't seem to stop thinking thoughts of worry and fear, leaving you feeling upset, you may be experiencing anxiety.
The distress from anxiety often interferes with everyday life.
Anxiety disorders include phobias, panic, social, and generalized anxiety disorders.
Anxiety differs from fear and worry in a number of ways.
It affects the Body, Mind & Behaviour and is more generalised than fear or worry about one particular event or change for example.
Symptoms of Anxiety;
Body- Palpitations/ racing heart, stomach aches, tightness in chest, constipation, fatigue, aches and pains, sweating, insomnia, sweaty palms etc.
Thinking- Negative thinking, racing thoughts , fearful and extreme thoughts of worry, difficulty concentrating, constant fear of what others are thinking about me, paranoia.
Behaviour- Withdrawing and isolating from friends/family, loss of interest in hobbies and activities, feel unable to cope with challenge or pressure of any kind, acting out in anger or shutting down.
Anxiety is not the same as worry or fear.
