Still dealing with a tummy overhang months (or even years) after your C-section? 😩

Unfortunately, it’s not just about time or banging out crunches 😒

That soft fold or pouch is often linked to a mix of scar tissue, muscle laxity, posture changes, and core disconnection. Your abdominals stretched for months to grow your baby.. and that doesn’t “snap back” overnight.

🤷‍♀️❓️You may have seen conflicting advice online and feel unsure where to start, or you may be worried you’ll make it worse. That’s where I come in as a Pelvic Health Physio.

🧠 First, I understand what your body’s been through and can do a thorough assessment of your specific starting point.
💪 Then, I can help you to rebuild your strength and connection, step by step.

If you’d love to see this topic covered more and for me to post more practical core exercise inspo, drop a ❤️ below or like this post.
It tells me you want more of this — and I’ll create it for you 😁

📌 Oh and save this post to come back to later when you’re ready to take action.

I'm so happy to share that I am now a fully qualified Oncology Scar Specialist, having completed advanced training with Restore Scar Therapy.

🎉 This specialist service is now available at Down Below Physio, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be bringing it to the Northwest, right here in Donegal 🫶

Cancer leaves more than just physical scars, and the emotional and functional impact can linger long after treatment ends.

Recovery doesn’t stop once you stop receiving medical care for cancer. Most of the time, the road to recovery is longer and calls for ongoing support, intervention, and care.

😌 Being able to help someone feel more at ease and connected with their body again means so much to me.

🩷 This training was incredibly special to complete, and I’m so thankful to Restore Therapy for the knowledge and hands-on skill they provided, as well as demonstrating the empathy and passion it takes to work in this area when I was over for my in-person course days in Wales.

If you or someone you love is living with scarring from surgery, radiotherapy, or cancer treatment, please know this type of gentle, specialist support is now available.

💬 If you help and support, or you’d like to know more, feel free to message me or book directly via the link on my website www.downbelowphysio.ie

You might have thought that Down Below Physio clinic can just help you with your pelvic floor after having baby or if you have a problem like leaking, but pelvic health physio can be really helpful during pregnancy as well.

Whether you want help to get started with pelvic floor exercises, advice about modifying your exercise routine, assessment for pelvic girdle pain or support with learning how to do perineal massage for birth prep. There is so much I can help you with.

I often have ladies in for postnatal check ups who only find out at that stage that I do pregnancy physio and they wish they'd known so they could have come to see me! 🙈

So if you need anything, come see me! ☺️👋

This was a real moment for one of my clients.
She’d had little bladder leaks here and there, but kept putting it off.

Then the combination that left her shaken and embarrassed— a wedding, a full bladder + lively DJ set = a big full leak!! 🫣🫣😭

That was her turning point.

She came to see me, we worked on pelvic floor rehab, and recently?
She danced her heart out at a festival—no leaks, no fear, full bladder and all. 💃🏻✊️

It’s never “too small” a problem to address.
And it’s never too late to start.

👉 Come see me if you need HELP with your bladder control - www.downbelowphysio.ie to make an appointment with me at Down Below Physio clinic!

Your scar might LOOK FINE on the outside—but is it still causing you PROBLEMS underneath?

🕓 Your scar is considered “healed” and “fine” when it’s fully closed and there’s no infection.

⚠️ But as many of you probably know, that might not mean it FEELS fine or that the healing process is anywhere near complete.

💥 If you feel tightness when stretching, a strange tugging during movement, or lingering
numbness - these are signs your scar may still need support.

😃 The good news? With the right approach, that tension can be released.

Restoring tissue glide, introducing the right movements, scar massage, breathwork, silicone.. There’s SO MUCH you can do - and if you need help figuring out what your particular scar needs and where you should start, come see me - I offer specialist scar services at my clinic! 🩷

🙋‍♀️❓️ What issues are you having with your scar? Let me know 'down below'! 🙃

🙋‍♀️❓️ Were you dismissed with ‘everything is fine’?

I had an incredible time in Wales last week, I was over doing advanced clinical training in Oncology Scar Therapy with 🩷

It was an amazing experience, surrounded by a lovely group of fellow therapists — all of us passionate about learning how to better support people recovering from cancer and surgery.

One of the most moving parts of the training was having model clients bravely volunteer to come in and share their cancer stories and allow us to practise our techniques on their scars. Many of these were breast surgery scars — and we were all deeply grateful and respectful of this vulnerability and trust. 🫶

Over the week, we took a deep dive into the complexity of oncology scar massage:
▶️ How to adapt for tissue fragility and radiation damage
▶️ Techniques to support tissue viability and recovery
▶️ How to plan out and adapt treatments for each type of scar presentation.

Scar therapy for oncology clients requires specialist knowledge and so much care — it’s not just about knowing the techniques, it’s about creating a safe, respectful space for healing.

I learned so much from our tutor Sarah (huge thank you!) and I’m excited to bring this work into my own practice very soon!

I’ll be sharing more about what I learned, including an depth look at scar care products — stay tuned. 😃

Let’s Talk About Scars! 🔍

Scars are a natural part of healing, but they can cause issues like pain, tightness, or sensitivity. There can also be long-term consequences as a result of hidden, deep-seated adhesions.

The good news? 😃

Understand your scar and how best to manage it can make a huge difference in how it heals and feels! 💯

Over the next 10 days, I’m diving deep into the topic of Scars—breaking down everything from:

🔍 Different types of scars

🔍 Common symptoms scars can cause (short & long-term)

🔍 How hydration, massage & treatments like LymphaTouch can help

🔍 Practical tips to support scar healing

If you have a scar—whether it’s a recent or old scar—this series is for you!

😳 This is probably TMI, but…”

I hear this ALL the time. But let me be clear—when it comes to your pelvic health, nothing is too much information 💁‍♀️

☺️ If you can’t share it with your pelvic health physio, where can you?

Too many women wait months or even years before getting help because they feel embarrassed talking about something that’s a private or ‘embarrassing’ issue.

🩷 So this post is just your reminder that Down Below Physio clinic is a safe space for you to discuss your pelvic health, all aspects of it, no matter what.

😉 TMI is not a thing at Down Below Physio clinic.

Are You Doing Your Pelvic Floor Exercises Correctly? 🤔

You might be wondering

❓ How do I know if I’m doing them right?
❓ How many should I do?
❓ How often?
❓ How long until I see results?

So many women coming to see me have ‘how to’ questions and they feel so much better when they get the right advice – and leave the clinic confident in what they’re doing!

Pelvic floor exercises can be confusing, and without the right guidance, it's easy to make common mistakes—like squeezing too hard, clenching your bum, tensing your whole body, or holding your breath! 😮‍💨

📈 Getting 1-1 support tailored to your individual starting point makes all the difference. I’ll help you find the right technique, the right effort, and the right plan for your needs.

If you’re going to spend your valuable time on something, make sure you’re doing it right! ✔️

Mama, we see you. 🩷 You’ve been giving everything you have to care for your little one, and it’s easy to forget about yourself in the process.

😣 I know how easy it is to ignore the low back aches, the occasional leak when you sneeze, or the feeling that something just isn’t quite right down there.

You tell yourself, 👉 “I’ll deal with it later,” but let’s be honest—later rarely comes.

Your body has been through so much during pregnancy and birth. It deserves a little love, just like you give to everyone else.

💁‍♀️ A Postnatal Check-Up is your chance to pause, take stock, and make sure YOU are healing as well as possible—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

😌 We’ll talk about everything in detail, in privacy, unrushed. It’s the ideal time to bring up any of those little concerns that have been weighing on the back of your mind.

It shouldn't be about just ticking over day-to-day and managing ok, it should be about feeling really good. 🙌 When you feel good, you can give so much more to your family.

And this post is a little reminder to prioritise yourself: 🤳 Book a postnatal check-up today and give yourself that love and support you deserve - www.downbelowphysio.ie

Don’t wait until “later”—you deserve this. Let’s make it happen. 💕
