Wishing you all a peaceful and happy new year in 2023.

FOR A NEW BEGINNING

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

Reduced social contact or self-isolation due to Covid-19 can intensify feelings of stress and anxiety. We are challenged to manage anxiety and stress levels. Developing routines and coping strategies for self-care is key. Take time to connect safely with others and seek help if you are struggling.

Lockdown is a having a particularly severe impact on people who have suffered trauma, whether it was recent or historic. Staying at home can replicate aspects of the original trauma: feeling trapped, imprisoned with no means of escape. Feeling trapped can increase a person’s su***de risk. If you are experiencing any suicidal thoughts, engaging in deliberate self-harming or have lost a loved one to su***de, it is important for you to reach out for immediate support.

Online counselling is available to support you. There is no need to struggle on your own. Take time to talk.

During these difficult times many people are feeling stressed and anxious, whilst others are dealing with other personal issues in their lives. As we continue to restrict our movements and stay at home, we may experience restlessness, being irritable and fed-up. Frustration or anger may be experienced as we continue to self-isolate. While some people may be faced with the challenge of living in solitude, others are facing challenges of living with people who may be triggering them.

“Take Time to Talk”
Friendships aren’t just about having people to share experiences with. Friendships are crucial to our mental, emotional and overall health and can have a huge impact on our ability to survive major challenges. If you are feeling socially isolated here are a few tips to stay connected:
- Make time each day to stay connected to family, friends or colleagues
- Arrange to meet with friends that you may have not connected with recently
- Try meeting someone new such as talking to someone in the supermarket, on the bus or on the train
- Take a break from your workstation for your lunch break and sit with a colleague talking about non-work issues.

Grief is the natural response resulting from a significant loss and the feelings associated with grieving are unique to each individual.
Everyone experiences loss in their lives, but how we respond to loss is, in part, associated with our attachment to that which is lost. Our strongest attachments are usually to other people, especially family and close friends.
The death of a loved one can be painful and leave us feeling devastated. However, talking about the loss of a loved one can be therapeutic.
