Our optometrist Aoife inserting punctual plugs at the brilliant Dry Eye Training Day ran by Scope on Monday in the National Optometry Centre in TUDublin📚

The practical workshops allowed the attendees to advance their skill set, by learning about new treatment options and improving the dry eye treatments they currently use.

Dry eye is quickly becoming one of the most common presenting complaints during an eye exam and affects a lot of the patients we see everyday. Anyone can suffer with dry eye and the prevalence is increasing especially in younger patients who are VDU users👩‍💻

Symptoms of Dry Eye include itchy, gritty, sore, red, watery eyes. Blurry vision and tired, sensitive eyes can also be linked with dry eye.

We offer a number of dry eye treatments starting from prescribing the most appropriate drops, discussing at home management and improving lifestyle factors, including supplements. All of our optometrists are also trained in Blephasteam and Blephex, for more advanced blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction.

We talk non stop in practice about promoting myopia management but sometimes not everyone is aware of the reason.... Why do we care so much about myopia management? Does it really matter if my child is -8.00D instead of -1.00D?

The ONLY reason we offer myopia management to our patients is you are at a much higher risk of developing eye conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma and cataract if you have a high myopic prescription.
