Some days we feel in total equilibrium, and others we need some support in a balancing pose. In my pregnancy yoga classes in particular, I always suggest we do balancing poses, such as tree, near the support of a wall. What better to support you, than the wall of the 1,700 year old Staigue stone fort in Co. Kerry. There's amazing energy in such an ancient place.

We're on our holliers in beautiful Kerry, for some much needed downtime with the family - so no yoga classes this week. I love strawberry season! We spent a lovely morning this morning. Luckily I had two hard workers with me, as with Tabitha strapped to me in the sling, I wasn't the most efficient picker! I might make a pavlova, and top it with our haul, and perhaps some chia jam too. What's your favourite way to use strawberries?

My schedule this week..
Pregnancy yoga, 8pm-9.10pm this evening, Thursday.

Mum & baby yoga, 10-11am Saturday morning.

We started this journey of online pregnancy yoga over 11 weeks ago. Many have joined the classes since then, but of that original group, over half have given birth to their babies. So I have decided to add a weekly Mum & baby yoga class to my offering.

It's a wonderful way to reconnect with your body after birth, bond with your baby & get support from other new mums. With the usual coffee mornings, breastfeeding support groups & baby classes on hold just now, many are craving connection and support as they navigate life as a new mother.

Come join us on Saturday at 10am, via Zoom, for the first class, from the comfort of your own home. Suggested donation of €8 to my fundraising page (more details to follow). DM me to book in.

Suitable for those 6 weeks post partum (10 weeks if you've had a C section)

How lovely! I recently got news of the safe arrival of the baby girl of one of my regular students. Thanks so much for the kind words. Pregnancy yoga can be such a powerful tool in helping you through pregnancy and preparing you for childbirth.

Modify......
Masalana, or a deep squat, is a classic pregnancy yoga pose. It feels great on the hips, creates space in the pelvis and strengthens the legs. Later on in pregnancy, it encourages baby into a great position for birth. It is to be avoided if baby is in a breech position from 34 weeks. There are some gorgeous variations of malasana, and lots of ways to modify it for comfort.

See how we can support the heels if they don't reach the ground, how we can place cushions to sit back onto, to feel more supported. How we can stretch to the side, and extent the stretch, by twisting deeper. How we can stretch into each leg, keeping the gaze down, or reaching skywards.

. India trip, 2007.
I'm in the midst of one of those jobs i'd longfingered for years - sorting through thousands of photos on my laptop. Sorting, categorising and deciding which are worthy of printing for albums or framing. A perfect job for lockdown. In reality, it's turned into a trip down memory lane. I found this gem, from a trip to India in 2007. I spent a few months travelling, and doing lots of yoga along the way. I had been practising for a number of years at that stage, but it was this trip that solidified my love of yoga, and planted the idea in me that i might become a teacher one day. This photo was taken in Jaisalmer, in the heart of the Thar desert in the state of Rajasthan. It's also known as the Golden City, due to the gorgeously warm sandstone architecture.
