Hi guys! The countdown is on now..only 22 days left to reopen 💪🏼🏋️💪🏼

For anyone looking to get back into training I have a few slots still remaining. All PT sessions take place in a private gym. All COVID precautions are being taken, including:
✔️A one way entry and exit system
✔️ Temperature taken prior to entry for each session
✔️ Hand sanitiser stations
✔️ Equipment wiped down after each and every use

These precautions have to be put in place to ensure the highest standards of hygiene for all clients.

👊💪Monday Motivation👊💪

Exercise helps both your physical and mental health. It releases endorphins (chemicals in your brain) that have a positive effect on your mood and body.

We know that exercises helps us to lose weight, look better and in turn have us feel better but did you know it also helps reduce the risk of as many as 35 chronic illnesses❓

These include:
☑️ heart disease
☑️ cancer
☑️ type 2 diabetes
☑️ stroke
☑️ osteoporosis
☑️ depression

Being physically active helps to:
🔴 drastically reduce the risk of chronic disease
🔴 keep weight at a healthy level
🔴 build muscle tone and strength
🔴 Reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and depression
🔴 Increase energy levels
🔴 boost self-esteem

Exercise is such an under utilised tool and one that can have a life changing impact on our daily lives. Don't under estimate the power of exercise and make sure to get your 30 mins of moderate exercise daily. 💪

❓Did you know that in Ireland, according to the HSE, just over 32% of the population are considered to be sufficiently active to meet national guidelines❓Meaning we should be engaged in physical activity of at least 30 minute duration 5 times a week.

☑️ Of these figures – 40% of men are sufficiently active while just 24% of women are sufficiently active.

☑️ Just 23% of people who are obese are sufficiently active while 36% of those with normal weight or are overweight are sufficiently active.

☑️ Significantly more people believe they are active in comparison to those who actually are.

☑️ According to a ‘Healthy Ireland’ survey in 2016, 63% of people would like to be more active than they already are and 91% of people who feel they don’t do enough activity would like to do more.

It is common knowledge at this stage that the better physical shape you are in, the better life is. But never has that rang more true than now with the COVID-19 pandemic where the inactive and obese are at a greater risk of being hospitalised than the fit, strong, healthy, active community. Physical activity needs to be promoted as a way of fighting off this and many other diseases.

🍏🥝🍇🥕 Healthy Snack Ideas 🥗🍫👊😋

I am always being asked about healthy snack ideas when you just need to have a bite to eat but are in-between meals. Here a few ideas to help keep you on track and eating healthily. As we head into winter we need to look after our bodies while they are healthy and fuel them properly so they will be able to look after us when we need them.

🔴Carrot sticks and hummus 🥕

🔴Chopped apple and nut butter (2 teaspoons in total!) 🍏

🔴A hard boiled egg - prepare a few and keep them in the fridge 🥚

🔴A cup of blueberries (fresh or frozen) 🍇

🔴Almonds (about 12-14) 🥜🌰

🔴A square of dark chocolate 🍫

🔴Celery sticks and hummus

Preparation is key - keep these foods handy and avoid unnecessarily eating sugary foods when you feel the slump coming on. 👊😋

❄️🤒😷🌧 Get Winter Ready ❄️🤒😷🌧

In consultation with our nutritionist Ann, we have devised a pack of essential vitamins for the coming months. As we enter flu season and with the continuous uncertainty regarding COVID-19, the importance of a healthy and strong immune system cannot be underestimated.

Our immune system is essential for survival and without it our bodies would be open to attack from viruses, bacteria, parasites and more. It keeps us healthy and without us paying much attention to it. We usually only think of our immune system when we get sick but in fact it is working on a daily basis to keep us healthy.

The immune system is spread throughout the body and involves many cells, organs, tissues and proteins. When the immune system encounters a pathogen, like a bacteria, virus etc., it mounts an immune response to deal with the foreign body and get rid of it.

The immune system is an incredibly complicated system but one that is utterly vital for our survival. We can strengthen our immune system naturally by boosting our vitamin and mineral intake.

Vitamin C - our bodies can't make vitamin C but it is an essential requirement to keep our immune system working at its best. It needs to be included daily in our diets and not just when we are feeling sick.

Vitamin D - this boosts the ability of our immune system to fight off infections. A natural source of vitamin D is sunlight but Irish summers can make this difficult and so supplementing is recommended during the winter months.

Zinc - this contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system. Zinc activates our T cells which control and regulate immune responses while also attacking infected cells.

The time has come to make the most difficult of decisions. I feel I have no choice but to temporarily close the studio from this evening in line with HSE guidelines on social distancing. We all need to do our bit to flatten the curve and help our frontline workers at this frightening time. It is up to each and every person to make the effort to stop the spread of this virus and until we do so we are putting our health service under unnecessary strain. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you all again in the not too distant future.
