Assistant Coach – Mallow RFC Senior Squads

This season, we’re excited to continue working with Stuart Henderson, a coach with international playing experience, deep club roots, and a tactical mind for backline play. Stuart enters his third season as coach with Mallow RFC, bringing a wealth of experience from both Scotland and New Zealand.

Here’s what you need to know:

🏠 What’s your home club and playing background?

Whitecraigs RFC is my home club — I played my youth rugby there and spent 12 years as a senior 1st team player, captaining the side for two seasons.

🌍 Any rugby abroad?
Yes, I had a stint in New Zealand before returning to play four seasons with Ayr RFC in the Scottish Premiership.

📍 Where did you finish your playing career?

I wrapped up my playing days here, with Mallow RFC.

🧠 What’s your coaching experience?

🔸 Whitecraigs RFC – Assistant Head Coach (2 years, National Division 3)
🔸 Whitecraigs RFC – Head Coach (3 years, National Division 3)
🔸 East Kilbride RFC – Backs Coach
🔸 Mallow RFC – Assistant Coach (Now in my 3rd year)

Built on Mallow – Meet Head Coach Neil Lucey

🏉 Leading both our J1 & J2 squads this season

This season, we’re proud to welcome back one of our own. A former club captain, a seasoned coach, and a true Mallow man — Neil Lucey brings experience, passion, and pride to his new role as Head Coach of both our J1 and J2 squads. Here’s what you need to know:

🗓 When did you start playing rugby?

I started playing at 15 years old with Mallow RFC and continued until I was 35.

🎖 What was a highlight from your playing career?

I had the privilege of captaining the Men’s side for a couple of years—something I’m very proud of.

🧠 When did your coaching journey begin?

I began coaching in 2003 while working at Christian Brothers College (CBC).

🤝 Who have you worked with as a coach?

I was fortunate to coach alongside Brian Hickey, Jason Holland, and Conor Quaid at CBC.

🏆 What clubs have you coached in the All Ireland League?

Over the past 10 years, I’ve coached at Sundays Well, UCC, and Garryowen.

🔥 Any representative coaching experience?

This summer, I’m assistant coach with the Munster U19s – my third time coaching a Munster age grade team after stints with the U18s & U19s.

💪 What are you leading this season at MRFC?

I’ll be coaching both the J1 and J2 squads - excited to build depth and unity across both teams.

🔭 What are you looking forward to this season?

I’m excited about the year ahead and ready for the challenges it brings.
