Gentle Warrior

Gentle Warrior Hi I'm Janine (ZaneThongo) the only Sangoma (African Shaman) in Ireland affiliated with the Zulu & X

A Sangoma (African Shaman) is a traditional healer from South Africa who uses knowledge that has been passed down for centuries from Sangoma to Sangoma. Today we can bring this knowledge to better our life in our stressful, fast paced, culture. These practices speak to our inner core instincts and help us return into our conscious control. Bringing a peace and calm that is as relevant today as it

was on the planes of South Africa hundreds of years ago. We can help if you are feeling confused with low energy, stressed, depressed, anxious, going through a difficult transition, feeling stuck in a rut, been through trauma, feeling like life is out of control – these are not new problems but are happening more frequently in newer times. Working with Gentle Warrior we can, using the knowledge and cultural remedies of our tribes, benefit your physical and spiritual well being and make you complete again. Of great comfort can be joining our “Tribe” and as a “Tribe” there will be support and nurturing into the future.

On my way to Dublin today—sadly not to airport for a holiday, just a quick dash to the South African Embassy. They say a change is as good as a holiday… so I’ll take it (even if it comes with traffic and no beach)!

Hey gentle warriors, just a little check-in to say—I’m still here. I haven’t gone anywhere, just moving through a time of transition. I’ve stepped into a new role that’s pulling me in a direction I don’t fully understand yet, but something is definitely taking shape.

There’s so much shifting and unknown energy in the air lately—it feels collective. And with that, fear often rises. That quiet, unsettling fear of not knowing what’s next… of being in the in-between.

If you’re sitting in that space too, I see you. It takes so much to hold steady when the path ahead isn’t clear. But somewhere in that unknown, there’s also a quiet invitation—to find hope, to trust what’s unfolding, and to keep moving forward with courage, one step at a time.

🌕🔴 Blood Moon Eclipse Tonight

Many people feel the effects of a full moon—teachers I worked with even noticed that one boy with autism was always more sensitive and reactive during one. It’s real. This eclipse is no different—it’s a shift, a reset.

Tonight’s Blood Moon Eclipse is all about release, growth, and new beginnings. It’s a time to let go of what’s weighing you down, embrace change, and step forward.

I couldn’t quite capture the beauty of this moon on camera, but you can see how low it is, shining so bright tonight—the magic, the mystic.

And here are some simple ways to help start with that shift:

✨ Shake it off – loosen your body, roll your shoulders, release tension.
🌑 Change your space – step outside, open a window, shift your energy.
🔄 Do one small thing – drink water, stretch, take a deep breath.

Big energy, small steps. Trust the changes.

Cloud Watching: A Simple Tool for Emotional Regulation ☁️

Feeling overwhelmed? Stressed? Scattered? Look up.

Cloud watching is more than just a pastime—it’s a powerful way to regulate emotions and bring yourself into the present moment. As you watch the clouds drift, your breath slows, your body relaxes, and your mind begins to settle.

Observing the ever-changing sky teaches us that emotions, like clouds, come and go. They shift, transform, and eventually pass. No feeling lasts forever.

Next time you feel the weight of the world, take a few moments to pause, breathe, and watch the sky. Let the clouds remind you that everything moves in its own time.

What do you see in the sky today? ☁️

When I put on my Prophet cloak and Sangoma beads—my magic, my ceremonial outfits—I am stepping into the energy they hold. They are not just fabric and beads; they are transformation, embodiment, a channel for the wisdom and power that moves through me. Each thread, each bead carries the resonance of spirit, ancestors, and purpose. When I wear them, I don’t just represent the work—I become it.

It’s Never Too Late to Reinvent Yourself

At 50, I found myself wondering—can I really change direction? Can I follow my intuition and step into something new? The answer is yes. Reinvention doesn’t mean erasing the past; it means expanding, evolving, and allowing life to guide us toward deeper alignment.

Sometimes, change isn’t about starting over but about enhancing the path we’re already on. Life shifts, circumstances change, and we grow. And with that growth comes the opportunity to step into something even more authentic.

So if you’re feeling the pull toward a new direction, trust it. It’s never too late to embrace change, follow your dreams, and create a life that feels truly your own.

The Calm After the Storm

Storm Eowyn swept through Ireland, leaving many of us without power, water, heating, or broadband. No endless scrolling, no background noise, no easy distractions—just stillness.

In the aftermath, I found myself simply sitting. No TV, no phone, no to-do list. Just silence. And in that silence, a realization: how rarely do we allow ourselves to just be?

For those of us in roles where we care for others—Special Needs Assistants, caregivers, healers, parents, teachers—we give so much. But when do we pause? When do we let ourselves rest, reset, and receive?

That forced stillness reminded me: rest is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. If we don’t take time to recharge, we cannot show up fully for others.

So even now, with life back to normal, I’m holding onto that lesson. Taking moments to sit, to breathe, to let silence do its work. Because looking after ourselves is looking after others.

Take a moment today. Just be. You deserve it.

A snippet from my discussion with The Sharon Fitzmaurice Podcast last week. I listen back to this in complete fascination, that this was my life, the Dr's couldn't medicated me when I was at my absolute lowest (my body rejected all of them) and I found the strength to push through. So grateful I'm through this period and standing stronger on the other side. Thank you Sharon for holding space while I shared some of my deepest challenges, and we still got to have laughs through it

I had the best time last week chatting with the wonderful Sharon Fitzmaurice. Nothing planned, no guidelines, just showing up and having a genuine and heartfelt discussion. We covered so much ground in 1 hour and although we spoke about pretty deep topics, we got to enjoy good laughs along the way :)
