Apologies in advance if politics aren’t your thing - but this is an important article and well worth a read.

In here is a description of the endgame of a false logic - that there is no downside to the pursuit of sovereignty in an interconnected world.

I confess that I take no pleasure in what is unfolding in the UK now. The deterioration that is occurring is reminiscent of the debacle of the Suez Crisis in 1956. And, ultimately, the island of Ireland will inevitably be impacted in due course. Not good times for any of us.

This is the biggest humiliation of Britain since Suez, a reminder that no government can ignore reality, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

UPDATE: BEN HAS NOW GONE TO RESCUE ❤️

We have posted Big Ben a few times now with sadly no home offers for him. He came into us on August 26th and he is very stressed in a kennel environment. His paws were bleeding from pacing, we have now moved him to a new run and this is improving, he is losing a lot of weight. He is a young German Shepherd cross approx 18 months old, he gets on with dogs his own size, we don’t know about cats, he can be nervous as we suspect he hasn’t been exposed to much before he came into us, he is nervous of some men but not all. Adult only home with a fully enclosed garden, he is not suitable as a yard dog or to live in a dog run, he wants to be part of the family ❤️ With 9 more dogs into us yesterday we are now under pressure for kennel space and are nearly at capacity, we need a new home for Big Ben soon 🙏🏻 please someone out there must be willing to give him a chance or at least come and meet him 🙏🏻 if not please share

An interesting piece on ADHD

It was, to paraphrase the great Eric Morecambe, a conversation containing all the right notes, if not necessarily in the right order – but I learned enough to change my mind about two long-held opinions

Have you had enough of politicians and the media telling what to think about subjects that matter to you? Would you like to be able to discuss and debate subjects of importance to you with people of like mind?

Perhaps you might consider joining me and others in the Cork Critical Thinking Group. Forthcoming topics we will be debating are on subjects as diverse as free will, the limitations of inclusion and diversity, and whether to control immigration and refugees in Ireland. Our diverse and friendly group from all walks of life meet once or twice a month in Cork City.

For anyone struggling with making a decision, and with the possibility of having to engage with regret, here’s a beautiful thought to help you on your way.

The Road Not Taken
BY ROBERT FROST

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Reminding everybody that the third meeting of the Cork Critical Thinkers Group takes place on Saturday 30th July in lovely Cork City (also called the ‘Real Capital’ which some townies from inside the Pale might find challenging).

An article on the importance of debate from yesterday’s Financial Times said the following: “people do not change their minds because they enjoy a show, nor even because of a dazzling display of logic. People change their minds because they persuade themselves. Rapport, listening and inviting people to elaborate can all open a space for that self-persuasion to happen. But a world champion debater cannot change your mind; only you can do that”.

Join us if you fancy having a unique opportunity to change your mind.
