🚨 PROTECT MITCHESLTOWN & SAY NO TO 14 ACRE INDUSTRIAL BIOGAS PLANT IN OUR RURAL COMMUNITY 🚨
❓What’s happening?
An industrial biogas plant is proposed at Corracunna, just 60m from the nearest home. Cork County Council granted permission despite 20+ objections.
❓What’s the current status?
An appeal is now before An Bord Pleanála, and the public has until 28 January to make a submission or sign the petition. (We will share more information on our socials this week to assist with lodging a submission)
❓Why it matters?
• Odour & noise cause ~90% of complaints at industrial sites (source: EPA)
• Anaerobic digestion plants have been flagged as high-risk enforcement sites, including Timoleague, Co. Cork (epa.ie)
• Limerick example: A plant was refused because predicted odour was “seriously injurious” to homes.
• Odour & noise can enter homes, shops, cafés, gyms, offices, and schools, affecting daily life.
• Increased HGV traffic could disrupt deliveries, commutes, and emergency access.
• Once operational, the impacts would be extremely hard to reverse, AFFECTING MITCHELSTOWN’S REPUTATION, ECONOMY, and FURURE GENERATIONS
⚠️Real impacts documented:
• Ballyroan, Laois — residents reported “atrocious” daily odours (leinsterexpress.ie)
• Glenmore AD plant — EPA audits confirmed odour breaches (leap.epa.ie)
• Roscommon / Aurivo facility - €350k fine after odours made residents unable to enjoy outdoor life (independent.ie)
• UK AD plants — repeated complaints forced residents to leave homes (bioenergy-news.com)
