An adult has died with a confirmed case of listeria infection, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has confirmed.

It said that nine confirmed cases of listeria had been identified as of yesterday.

It comes as the FSAI said a National Outbreak Control Team is investigating an extensive outbreak of listeria linked to a precautionary food recall of ready-to-heat meals.

The HSE's Health Protection Surveillance Centre is investigating the death and to ensure medical confidentiality no further information on the person who died can be disclosed.

This follows a food safety recall of ready meals by the FSAI due to fears of the harmful bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Products from Tesco Finest, The Happy Pear, SuperValu Signature Taste, and Centra Freshly Prepared are among a range of ready meals included in the recall.

The various branded prepared meals and side dishes are produced by Ballymaguire Foods and are sold in most major supermarkets - including Aldi, Centra, SuperValu, and Tesco - and are branded under the names of its customers.

Fantastic news, well done Park United and especially Conor O Keeffe.

It's here.
After almost 12 months and many meetings our 50th anniversary book has finally come to fruition. A huge thank you to all that were involved in this mammoth task of compiling the past 50 years of the clubs history into the making of this book. Special mention to our author Conor O 'Keeffe who worked tirelessly in putting it all together and also to Bill Power who applied the finishing touches before going to print. Thanks also to Rosemary Wiley for her input into the book cover and to our book committee who were diligent in sourcing past and present history and also a huge thanks to the avondhu press and all those who supplied photos and paragraphs. This book is a must have for anyone who had connections with the club over the last 50 years.

To coincide with our 50th anniversary celebrations we are launching this book on this friday night 25th July in Walsh's yard bar at 8pm and all are welcome. The book is available in hard copy or soft copy and will go on sale after the launch on friday night.

Gardai will have the power to intercept and monitor live conversations on private messaging apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage and Instagram under a reform of surveillance laws used by Irish security services.

Jim O'Callaghan, the justice minister, will bring legislation to the government to allow gardai, the Defence Forces and the police ombudsman to track interactions on modern communications between individuals linked to potential crimes.

The legislation will also permit the interception of private communications sent via new and emerging technologies - including satellite networks, gaming devices and car systems - reflecting the state's concern that surveillance laws are outdated in the face of rapidly advancing digital communications platforms.
