We have advocated these issues for years, They talk about new regulations, new laws but if they can't implement and enforce what's already there, moving forward is pointless, standards need to reassess re-evaluated and implemented with force
One would assume as per the photo that this unit would be easy to see.
It is very unfortunate that this evening we received a message from one of our guys of his intent to depart our group.
Having completed a long shift he explained his reasons.
Nothing to do with the difficult work we do .
The sickness and loss, the despair some people find themselves in fighting the system.
The lack of support that often happens due to disconnection between depts .
The number of hours or days spent on the road.
It all boils down to driving standards.
On his shift he had over 6 near misses and 3 very serious miss attempts.
All followed by ,
sorry , did not see you , I put my indicator on , what’s your problem and then the classic just pure abuse by people on their phones , doing hair, make up , teams calls , watching films, on lab tops , eating, wearing ear phones, shaving, day dreaming, reading papers, driving with no lights in heavy rain and dark evenings, just to highlight some issues.
He is a calm person who has handled the most difficult cases with dignity and compassion.
We are at a loss but asked him to take a break and hold off making a final decision.
We are a small team with very special players and it’s a first for us in over 10 years.
Hopefully he will reflect, reenergise and reconsider.
The road safety authority speak all the time about speed as an issue.
What about all the other factors that they never consider.
They should spend a day on one of our units and take stock of reality.
Sometimes while in the forest one can’t see the wood for the trees.
