AMAZING NEWS IN CORK!!!!

Good news 🎉 at last. Had a meeting with SSWHG ( CUMH) and the service is being transferred
AS IS! No restrictions on distance! 🎉 ...for now 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks to the INMO for excellent support 🙏 and thanks to EVERYONE who supported the service. They had to listen! It's only the beginning but for now....NO 30min blue light restrictions 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Cork protest at CUMH next Sun, 6th November at 12.30.
The aim of the protest is to object to the proposed 30 min distance restriction for homebirth eligibility. If effected, this will restrict access to between 50 and 80% off women seeking the homebirth service.
For families in rural areas, they will be left with no choice in birth care pathway at all. Just one pathway: a hospital based an hour and upwards away with a high likelihood of birthing at the side of the road in dangerous conditions or at home unassisted. Every woman has the right to a midwife and the right to choice.

Historically ☀️☀️☀️☀️
Midwives were blamed when the crops failed or if the king couldn't produce an heir ☀️
They were accused of witchcraft if they knew how to cure diseases and many Midwives were burnt at the stake ☀️

Community Midwives are still blamed, ostracized and treated without due respect today ☀️

On today's Solstice ☀️☀️☀️
let's forgive ☀️ but forget nothing ☀️and pray that we will get the respect we deserve....sometime.

More behind the scenes! 📸

Getting ready for some booking visits coming up in the next few weeks. What does that involve you may ask?

✅Printing the application forms
✅Printing off info on how to prepare your home for birth
✅Preparing packs that include notes, IMEWS chart (a form we use to record your blood pressure, temperature, pulse, etc) birth notification form, discharge form
✅National Ambulance Service form
✅Contact details of midwife and DMO

So even on days where we are not at home births or out doing visits, we still have bits and bobs to follow up on at home, the paperwork side of the job

Haven’t shared any home birth pics in a while, and my gosh, this was an amazing one!

got in touch when she found out about baby number 2 and I was sooooo excited to come see her again. Yes, again! Home birth no.2 on the cards

To say this pregnancy had many twists and turns is an understatement. Baby decided to be a world class gymnast, constantly turning right up until her due date. But Stephanie worked daaamn hard and baby got snug with her head in the pelvis and home birth was a go-go!

It was so much a go-go that this little one rocketed Earth side, with myself, and student midwife Caoimhe present for her arrival, and Stephanie supported by her wonderful hubby. arrived minutes later for the after party!

Every birth is so special, whether at home or in hospital. Something hits differently when you are invited back into someone’s home for baby number 2 (or 3 or 4!) Thank you for having the trust and faith in me to have me back again, and I cannot wait to see you guys again soon 🥰

Our home birth service is so much more than the home birth itself - it’s continuity of care, building a trusting relationship, having time at visits to feel heard and listened to and become more informed about pregnancy, birth and postpartum 🤱🏻

Please take 30 seconds out of your day to read through this and sign the petition to lift the ban on water birth within our HSE home birth service. Women deserve their right to choose where and how they give birth, especially in their own home. Recent studies on water birth show the overwhelming positive outcomes and safety, so why are we still asking women to exit the pool to give birth? We need to be pushing forward with our maternity services, not pulling back. Time to lift the ban 💪🏼

Incredibly proud and privileged to be a part of such an amazing service, having the opportunity to work alongside the most wonderful group of midwives and sharing unforgettable experiences with women and their families 🥰
