The occasional glass of wine after a ‘long day’, or rare tub of ice-cream after a break-up isn’t a major worry. Rather, it’s when emotional eating feels out of control, this is as a cause for concern!

Emotional eating often comes on suddenly and feels like it needs to be satisfied immediately.... It happens as a way of suppressing or distracting negative thoughts and feelings, and is a form of self-soothing.

In the short-term, it can feel functional, but in the long-term it can support a cycle of difficult and distressing feelings.

Sound familiar? Remember, binge eating can also be a form of an eating disorder – and if you are struggling with disordered eating patterns, it’s advisable to seek support!!!!!

Anxiety can often fuel a negative relationship to food and our bodies. As an eating disorder specialist i recognise the role that anxiety can play in forcing us to look outside of ourselves to cope.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) has many useful tools within its disposal that can help break the cycle of negative thinking that influences unhealthy eating habits. CBT can provide a set of tools that can be used for life.

Explore motivation, thoughts and beliefs in relation to food and physical exercise. Using CBT techniques and the Symptom Cycle, it will look at breaking the cycle, changing eating habits and forming your own eating plan. CBT is not about putting you on another ‘diet’!
