All of us here at The North Tipperary Genealogy & Heritage Centre would like to take the opportunity to express our sadness on the passing of Nancy Murphy last week .
Nancy along with Donal her husband were the founding members of the Ormond Historical Society in 1977. Just one of many accomplishments of both Nancy and Donal was in 1982 when they founded the Nenagh District Heritage Society and succeeded in their objective of preserving two of Nenagh's old gaol buildings , the gatehouse and Governor's house and turned it into the innovative heritage centre/museum that reflects the history and lifestyle of local people in the past and is still going strong today . Nancy also played a vital role and was heavily involved in the North Tipperary Genealogy Centre that was later added to the site . She brought to life the sad story of The Cormack Brothers in book form . Nancy had laid down the foundations and shared knowledge that will benefit and educate generations to come and for that we are forever grateful. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
