Yoga is the union of mind and body and Pilates is a method of improving spinal alignment and core stability. Niamh's journey of teaching Pilates began with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) based in London. She finds Pilates particularly beneficial to people who suffer with spinal pain. The benefits of Pilates are well-documented and Niamh uses them routinely with patients. She travelled to India, to study Yoga at its source and here she immersed herself in a strict yogic lifestyle at a traditional ashram. She learned asanas (exercises), pranayama (breathing techniques) and yogic philosophy. She gained an internationally recognised Yoga Teacher Training qualification that is accredited by the International Yoga Alliance. Niamh has just returned from home from a second stay in India, where she completed studies in Advanced Yoga Teacher Training.

“My philosophy is that a combination of yoga and Pilates works best.”

“I apply my physiotherapy background to modern Pilates methods, yogic philosophies and mindfulness/meditation to in order to restore physical and emotional wellbeing. My unique method has curative and preventative benefits for the body. These include increased flexibility and muscle strength, increased energy levels and vitality, improved athletic performance, empowerment and improved body awareness and protection from injury and early degeneration”. This successful combination has seen Niamh work with Tipperary’s senior hurlers and various club hurling teams in Tipperary and Limerick. After experiencing a prolapse following my (very very fast) first birth, I gained a whole new perspective on what truly matters in the immediate postpartum period.

It’s not about fearing one “bad” or “threatening” exercise - I t’s about HOW you’re doing it.

Listening to your body’s signals.
Observing, assessing and modifying as needed.

Postpartum core rehab isn’t about jumping back — it’s about rebuilding.

This time, I won’t skip this vital stage. Connection comes before progression.

Trapped under a newborn?

You can actually use this time productively to support your core, pelvic floor and nervous system later on.

Here’s a gentle postpartum reset I’ve been using to get me through those frustrating moments 🩵

When I saw this trend I just had to do it 🥰 But it can’t be 10 years ago already?! Surely those Covid years don’t count?

He wanted to be a 2025 baby after all! Happy New Year everyone xx

Steal my birth prep routine for the final weeks of pregnancy ✨

I’m moving mindfully with a breath-led practice designed to:
→ Relax and lengthen the pelvic floor
→ Encourage space through the pelvic outlet for birth
→ Mobilise the pelvis so I can move freely during labour
→ Gently explore birthing positions, allowing my joints to become familiar and supported

There’s no pressure here — the hard work is already done 💪
Now it’s about softness, trust and supporting my body as it prepares to meet this baby 🤍

11/12/2025

Teaching perineal massage every day… and now finally doing it myself!

If you’re prepping for birth, this is one tool I can truly say feels empowering, not scary.

Perineal massage from 34 weeks can help reduce severe tearing, episiotomies and improve your pushing confidence.

This is how I’m preparing my own perineum for birth ✔️

10/12/2025

These three simple exercises are saving my body from low back & hip pain. They’re pregnancy safe & still very doable at 36 weeks 💪

➡️ Birddog (I love this bench variation because it requires more core recruitment)
➡️ Inclined Planks / Mountain Climbers (with core engagement)
➡️ Resisted Internal Rotation- to reduce the dreaded hip pain & the waddle!

What are your ‘go to’ exercises in the final weeks?

09/12/2025

Steal my 36-week birth prep routine 👇🏼

As a pelvic physio, these are the specific, evidence-informed exercises I’m using to optimise pelvic biomechanics, promote occiput-anterior positioning and support efficient labor progression.

Practicing these daily in the third trimester is a wonderful way to prepare for birth. I like to combine them with some breathing for birth exercises to get my in the zone.

How are you preparing for birth?

08/12/2025

Optimal Fetal Positioning = smoother rotation and an easier descent

Think head-down, flexed and ideally anterior. (Birthing posterior is possible too so don’t panic if baby is OP 🙈)

Try these movements daily from 34 weeks. I aim for 10-15 mins every evening & make sure to do them when you feel baby move because this is when their most likely to move into position.
