5. Scheduled Smear Test:
If you are due a smear test, you should still attend it as planned.
Regular cervical screening is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of cervical cancer. It is very important to attend and keep up to date with your test.

What steps should I take now?
Two options:

1. You can avail of a consultation (funded by the HSE) with one of our GP’s in Newbridge Family Practice to discuss your concerns. We can organise a smear at a later time if you wish it.

Please inform our receptionist that you wish to discuss smear results with the doctor when booking the appointment Ph: 045434885

2. You can have a smear test performed by the practice nurse.

6. Reliability of screening:
Cervical screening in Ireland is very reliable and effective, over 3 million smear tests have been carried out in Ireland since 2008 there has been over 50,000 cases of pre-cancer and cancer have been detected and treated.
No Screening programme is 100% effective, they have a margin of error. This is one of the reasons regular routine cervical screening tests are offered to all woman, as it is the best way to assure cervical health.
