🙄 The worst things to say to a Chronic illness warrior: Part 1

We have all been there. We have heard them all. But maybe putting a sense to all these sentences can help others to understand what is really going on for someone struggling with a chronic illness. So these can be your responses.

1️⃣Calm down, there are people worse than you, you are lucky⏩ There are things I'm unable to control that make my body respond the way it does. I'm lucky I know my body best.

2️⃣it's just anxiety ,⏩Anxiety is a symptom caused by all the discomfort and pain I go through daily. My body is trying to protect me.

3️⃣it's all in your head. ⏩while my head controls a lot it cannot create the imbalances and chemical issues my body is going through.

Next time someone tries to convince you it's all in your head and it's your fault you can give them some of these responses. You are the only one that knows your body best and nobody can tell you how you are feeling ❤️.

Have a lovely weekend ❤️

🔗Nutritional Therapy for Lipoedema

How can Nutritional Therapy help with Lipoedema:

1️⃣Nutritional therapy looks at the root cause of imbalances. It looks at the body as a whole.

2️⃣Nutritional Therapy can reduce Lipoedema inflammation and help the tissue breathe and work metabolically better.

3️⃣Nutritional Therapy can balance hormone fluctuations and control deficiencies and overload which are linked with Lipoedema inflammation.

4️⃣Nutritional Therapy can educate and correct dysregulated eating patterns in Lipoedema which helps to restore a healthy relationship with food.

❓I think I have Lipedema. What do I do?

If you think you have Lipedema don't despair. there is loads of support you can get but it's important to get the advice from qualified professionals who can analyze your individual case and give you the proper recommendations you need.

I have broken down the most essential steps to follow:

1️⃣Get assessed first by a Vascular Surgeon in your area, GP or get an initial evaluation from a Lymphedema or Lipedema massage therapist who can feel the tissue and give you some help and guidelines as of where to go and can give you GREAT pain relief.
(Lipedema expert is crucial here)

2️⃣Once you have your diagnosis it's important to understand your baseline level of health with some bloods and functional testing and have a personalized nutrition plan made for you. This is not a diet plan or macro counting but a whole education around your own individual nutrition and lifestyle needs taking in consideration your test results. This is what a Functional Nutritional therapist does. A functional nutritional therapist will also be able to send you to the right path in terms of further specialist needs.

3️⃣Have a team of Lipedema competent specialist on your side. In order to understand which one you may need, step 1 and step 2 must be completed or it will risk you going over and over in spiral without a plan in place which delays you getting results and feeling better.

You cannot have one without the other and the quick fixes rarely bring any results but if any they can bring frustration and disappointment.

In Ireland we have a dedicated Lipedema support network where you can find a lot of helpful resources and support from other women living with Lipedema. Make sure to follow 💜.

I'm always here to help so please always reach out if you feel lost and in need of support. My page is designed to give you as much information and guidance in living with Lipedema and chronic illnesses.

📍EDS and HSD awareness month

I couldn't let May go without speaking about EDS and HSD which are the areas I work most in clinic and the people I help most due to their strong connection with Lipedema 🖤🤍.

Did you know that both EDS and HSD are very common amongst Lipedema patients? In fact most women I see will have one or the other. There isn't one single client I have seen over the years that doesn't present with at least one dysanautomia symptom!!

A cause very close to my heart and I just wanted to spread some awareness and give some of my own clinical findings from years of experience dealing with both conditions and all the clients I have helped along the way.

I would like to quote the Fabolous EDS Society .danlos for their incredible resources to patients and providers.

If you have EDS or HSD I would love to hear your own experience and what symptoms you struggle most with? 👇

Do you have EDS or HSD?
