As it’s Urology Awareness Month this September,
we thought we’d take the opportunity to raise awareness of one common urology condition that affects our pets.
One such condition is cystitis, and we’re going to look more closely at feline cystitis also referred to Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) which means we don’t know what’s causing it, but it’s often triggered by stress.
For example:
> New baby/pets/other people at home
> Moving house
> Fighting with other cats (either in the same home or in the neighbourhood)
> Home renovations
> Insufficient resources (litter trays, food bowls, water bowls, etc), so cats are being forced to share
If you spot any of the signs such as ;
frequent urination, blood in urine, excessive grooming , urinating in inappropriate places , straining to urinate, vocalisation, hiding, aggression
make an appointment for your feline friend to be seen as soon as possible
And if you notice your cat trying to pass urine and not being able to, this is an emergency, and your cat must be seen by a vet immediately
