Oh well, it was just an amazing night-Sunday the 14th last,
in the Cultúrlann at the East End of town..for a huge fest of local talent..
Started in daylight ..moved through the twilight.. and into the night on the stage framed with just an amazing amount of warm light, music and sound..
The McAuliffe Clan cultural centre came into its own ..yet again !
Apparently the 3 mermaids on the family crest are the symbols of eloquence..which is fitting for the songs and tunes which came our way on the night..
The acoustics were just amazing..
There was a mix of everything everything from Stan and the Céilí All-stars to the new arrivals Four to the floor,to family groups..
to the two stalwart Sliabh Luachra talents Timmy and Raymond ,and the return of the Northwest frontier’s creative ‘outlaws’- The Monks of the Screw from a little back in the day ..including John Drew ..
and Tim Browne also producing the tunes … in a session so hot he had to throw off the sandals..! 🎶
The church was just beautiful, and the sound built up from the young musicians at the start, looked out for by Stan, and the smaller but so talented groups and individuals..right up to everyone up on stage at the end..just wow..🎵
Timmy had the ultimate complement when his own composition “The Cascade”
was played as a cover version, before he later wove out the sound of his original himself..
This of course describes the tripping and flowing of the Glenara river..coming in from the high country..and meandering through the glen down to see the town..and meet the Dalua ..and head for Kanturk and the Allow..
Actually, that view coming in from Taur on a sunny day inspired the blue stream on our Woodbrook logo..coming out of the hills and reaching down from the higher forest country of Sliabh Luachra..
the woods of the Island Wood and the ‘Rock’ also made it into the little logo..
I hadn’t seen Paudie since Scully‘s Fest 2019 before the pandemic..and The Fest was always a great chance to catch up with all the emigrants and locals together,to catch up on the incredibly rich history of the area..
The quiet-spoken talented man himself, and his daughter Caroline, son Ben(now huge!)and lovely other half Christine, even managed to make a CD in the midst of the lockdown..
The Dancing Kiln CD well worth it and available online..and Timmy noticed in the old picture his brother..more local connections..
Great to have the music continue in town between Scanlon’s,The Rock Bar,and the other ‘locals’ and the up and coming talent in Cultúrlann joined by experienced musicians like Marie Barty and many others- in the sessions locally…
Cupán tae available in Cultúrlann sessions and a nice pint in the local spots..
Great night and great to see sounds ,music and craic in the east end of town from the beautiful surroundings of the rejuvenated building..
Incredible to have talent like this in the area..
Roll on the next one..! 🌅
