When Steph first asked me to co-host a mini Yoga retreat, I immediately said yes. Then I found out that she would be cooking… and then I discovered we’d be gathering in a beautiful 16th century castle. As someone who loves good food and old-world charm, I was completely sold!

Steph and I have been going to each other’s Yoga classes for a while now, so it's really exicting to create and host something together.

We’d love for you to get to know us a little better, so have a read below to discover who’ll be hosting the retreat.

New Yoga term y'all 🪻

My next 6 week block begins Thursday 21st May, 7-8.15pm at . Booking link is in my bio.

As summer gets going and life gets busy, this may be our last chance to practice together before the autumn. Future summer classes will depend on interest.

This Thursday is our final class of the current block. I'll be bringing tea, treats and a longer meditation after class if you'd like to stay afterwards to relax and have a bit of craic.

I am by NO means skilled at sticking to my Sadhana. I'm a consistently inconsistent type of gal. However, when I'm on form - my daily practice really benefits my life.

If you already have a personal practice..have you noticed how it shapes your day ahead?

Setting my alarm for the morning lol.

Question! What do Yoga and my dog have in common?

Answer: Every day I wake up and I think I couldn't love them any more than I do already. Then I wake up the next day and find out - that's simply not true!

Every teacher that I encounter, student that I meet, friend that I make, people that I train with, class that I take, scripture that I study....makes me fall in love with this practice more and more.

Different perspectives, offerings, styles and lessons. We are never done learning with Yoga. In fact, the longer I practice it - the less I know! And I love that.

After being unwell for a few months and not doing much Asana, I really began to think "What is the purpose of 'advanced' or 'complex' poses?".

As the purpose of Asana is to prepare the body for meditation, why do we have an infinite and perhaps growing amount of postures? Do we really need that many, to simply prepare our bodies to sit on a cushion comfortably?

I asked my teacher this, and the answer was "no!"

Of course there are many physical and energetic benefits to come from doing Asana. But sometimes, the Ego can get in the way. Making us always strive for more. Achieving more 'advanced' and difficult poses. But then our practice becomes goal oriented and we have expectations. Attachments. And if we are using all of our strength, willpower and attention to achieve a posture, are we practicing Yoga?

So yes, "simple" Asanas have enough functional benefits to prepare us to sit in a meditative posture.

These beautiful words are taken from the foreword of a translation of the Bhagavad Gita.

The Gita teaches us that we are not meant to be cabin dwellers. We are meant to explore and seek.

We can use Yoga to unite our mind, body and spirit. To withdraw from our senses. To explore our consciousness.

In my next 6 week series, I will be weaving teachings from the Gita into my class. Going beyond the poses. Offering different perspectives. Deeper understanding.

Starts tomorrow at

📔 The Bhagavad Gita. Eknath Easwaran.
