🏊‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️🤸🏽‍♀️ “Impact of exercise on musculoskeletal pain and disability in the postpartum period: a systematic review and meta-analysis”💥 I personally can’t think of anything better to talk about on World Physiotherapy Day 🙌🏻

This review of the literature shows that exercise (inclusive of exercises of the trunk or core) after having a baby can reduce disability and the severity of pain in the lower back and pelvic region and similarly for bodily pain 💫

So let’s move!

If you need guidance with this movement or are struggling with pain post-partum, your pelvic health physiotherapist can help with this. You can book an appointment online at pelvichealthwest.ie 💜

Thank you to the authors Stephanie-May Ruchat and colleagues for bringing us this research 🔥

Shout out to all my enabling and empowering physiotherapy colleagues this World Physiotherapy Day 🌈

Another wonderful piece of research 🧐

💥 Resistance training in pregnancy: Systematic review and meta-analysis of pregnancy, delivery, fetal and pelvic floor outcomes and call to action 💥

✅ Swipe for the associated benefits of resistance training in pregnancy.

As I heard at a conference this year:
“We need to stop thinking of the risks of exercise in pregnancy and start thinking of the risks of NOT doing exercise in pregnancy” 🏋️‍♀️

The authors have noted that the included studies have kept within the guidelines for exercise dosage and load and progression has yet to be analysed 🔮

Congratulations and thank you to the authors .christina_prevett and colleagues 👏🏻

Following on from August where the recent research on diastasis showed that the majority of instagram posts are not research based I thought I’d keep going with what the recent research is telling us!

So stay tuned in September for the most up to date findings and advice when it comes to exercise in pregnancy and post-partum 🏋️‍♀️

Following on from my post last week on the recent paper by .physio .physio and colleagues:

⚡️ : a mixed-methods analysis of Instagram posts and their influence on women’s exercise and sports participation ⚡️

Last week I spoke about how this paper shows us the high level on non-evidence based advice for diastasis on Instagram (60%❗️) creating confusion.

I wanted to share this infographic from the paper as I feel it sets out clearly what IS evidence-based advice for the management of diastasis. I say to a lot of you that you’ll be surprised at what you CAN do 🤸🏽‍♀️

See the left hand side of the screen for advice that is research based ✅

The right hand side of the screen are examples that were found in this study that were not supported by research ❌

Be accurately informed and see your healthcare professional if unsure 💜

Once again thank you to .physio .physio and colleagues for this research 👏🏻
