Hi All. As a Lactation Consultan tin Private Pracice I offer the following services
One to One Consultation

I find that one to one consultation work really well when getting breastfeeding off a good start. I can visit you at home or see you at my clinic. The session usually takes 90 minutes when I go through many topics such as what to expect in the early days, Positioning. working on getting a good latch, feeding intervals, how to know your baby is getting enough milk among other topics. I use the time to practice different positions and to try to get the best latch possible. I am happy to answer all questions and I develop a tailored plan for each mother and baby. I also include a follow up phone conversation in the consultation price.

Home Visits

Many mothers prefer the consultation to take place in their own home. This can be particularly useful in the early days. This visit takes 90 minutes and is aimed at helping you get the best latch possible when baby is breastfeeding. All questions are answered and there is a large amount of information to go through. Handouts are provided along with helpful websites. A breastfeeding care plan is completed specific to you and your baby to give you a plan going forward. I follow up with a phone call after this.

Antenatal Consultations

At present I offer one to one antenatal consultations by visiting you at home. The visit last 90 minutes. I feel this can be really very helpful in getting ready for breastfeeding. Sometimes a previous breastfeeding experience may not have gone to plan and this session provides the time to go over what happened and how to alleviate these problems in the future. Topics include what to expect in the early days, frequency of feeding, how to know your baby is getting enough milk, settling your baby, skin to skin contact and possible problems that may arise and how to tackle them

Antenatal breastfeeding classes are coming soon

I have been busy of late with lot of mothers and babies. Tongue tie is an issue I frequently come across. It can sometimes have a big effect on breastfeeding. In the non tongue tied infant the tongue plays a significant role in breastfeeding as it actively strips the milk from the breast with its backwards motion. It needs to be able to stretch as far as the bottom lip in order to cup the breast to remove milk effectively. Many tongue tied infants transfer milk well from the breast but they often stabilise the breast in their mouth differently and have a more shallow latch which can cause ni**le pain for their mothers. Other problems which may become evident due to tongue tie are poor latch , poor milk transfer an slow weight gain. It can help enormously to work to correct the latch through different positions. The laid back position can be especially helpful. Some mother may aalso seek a referral to a medical or dental practitioner to have the tongue tie evaluated and released.
