Eve of St. Brigid… legend has it that on the Eve of St Brigid’s day, January 31st, a cake of bread or a piece of cloth or ribbon (Brat Bríde or Ribín Bríde) was left outside on the windowsill, near the door or hanging from a tree. It was believed it would be touched by St Brigid on her travels and have the power to ward off illness and pain in both humans and animals. The material was safely kept and used for healing, or incorporated into clothing to offer protection to the wearer. Helen did the honors of hanging out ribbon for our residents and hopefully St.Bridgid will pass through our home tonight and take away all illness. Our beautiful crosses have been made and hang over our residents beds to keep them safe.

Two special celebrations in St.Anthony’s nursing home…
A belated happy birthday to our wonderful resident Fr.Alan. Fr.Alan isn’t fond of compliments or making a fuss so we will keep it short and just mark his day by wishing him a very happy birthday from his St.Anthony’s family 🎂 💐
Also, our employee of the month for January was the one and only, Billy Beary. With a huge vote, Billy was announced as the worthy winner of this months accolade and what a deserving winner he is. Billy is a firm favourite among residents and staff, a wonderful HCA who goes way above and beyond his expected roles and duties. Billy is a gentleman…a soft, approachable, empathetic, loyal and extremely caring individual who cares deeply for his residents. There isn’t a thing he wouldn’t do to help make their day that little bit better. Billy is so patient, kind, funny and energetic, he never stops going and no job is too big or too small for him. Billy is loved by all of us.. he has a great relationship with his colleagues and is a fiercely loyal friend. He is the first to offer help and the last to go home after his shift, his dedication to his profession is inspiring. Billy, thank you for everything that you do for all of us here. We would be lost without you. Here’s to the first of many more awards coming your way 👏 💙

We’ve had a great few days entertaining ourselves in the cold, wet weather. Games galore keeping us all happy, if not a bit competitive. Some of the men enjoyed logging into Tipperary Town mart this morning while others enjoyed boulles, mini golf, parachute games, karaoke etc.

Move over Lowry and Mcllroy… there’s some new golfers in town! We’ve enjoyed putting and practicing our holes in one this morning. Suki was so happy to see everyone, she Beary devoured poor Siobhan. We enjoyed some music as well as A Sonas group session. We said our prayers and completed our proverbs and enjoyed plenty of walks outside.

A massive congratulations to employee of the month for December, our fabulous HCA, MaryAnne. This lady could have won this award every month such is her dedication and loyalty to her position as carer. MaryAnne is such a hard worker, she is always on the go, always helping others when her own duties are finished and always has your back. She goes above and beyond for her residents, forms unbreakabke bonds with those who need it most, treats each resident like her own family member and is always in good form. As a carer, she is kind, patient, empathetic, sympathetic, loyal and dedicated. As a colleague, she is selfless, protective, helpful and great fun to work with. It is an absolute pleasure to work with MaryAnne each day, nothing is too much for her and she does it all with a smile on her face. MaryAnne we hope you know how well you’re thought of. This award is a small token of appreciation for all you do. Keep up the good work and keep being you, your one in a million ❤️👏👏

Happy la Nollaig na mBan… a wonderful day every year when the ladies get to sit back, relax and put their feet up, well some of them anyway 🫣 we had an extra special day as we were highly entertained by the musical talents of Pat Murnane, Carol Donovan, Kieran Hickey and friends! To say we had a wonderful afternoon would be an understatement. Easy sing along music and an up beat tempo had us all singing and tapping along. It was wonderful to see our dayroom packed and all residents enjoying the occasion. After the music, the ladies tucked into a beautiful afternoon tea, with a special word of thanks to Mary and John in the kitchen and of course to Debbie for all the prepping of the cakes. And as always, a big thank you to all the team here for helping our residents and their families to make more memories together. Another fabulous day enjoyed by all.

A throwback to the visit of the Liam McCarthy cup and the u20 All Ireland cups both of which are currently in the hands of Tipperary GAA. A big thank you to our beautiful resident Alice for organising this visit and to her nephew Brian for bringing the cups to us. A big thank you also to Kevin Hanly for assisting Brian on the day. Brian sent over these photos to us which we are delighted to share. Even the non Tipp supporters were happy to get their hands on them 🫣😅

Happy birthday to Tipperarys biggest supporter… the one and only Alice or “Lala” as we discovered today 😂😂 this lady is not with us all that long but by God has she made a huge impact on all of our lives. An absolute treasure of a lady, full of knowledge, fun and has an answer for everything 😂 Alice is a big fan of the “Chase” quiz show and likes to spend her days in the parlour with her friends answering the quiz questions. She has struck up wonderful friendships with her fellow residents and staff and is great fun to be around. Alice is always looking out for others and is completely selfless when it comes to putting others first. She is kind, caring and patient, the type of person you enjoy spending time with. Alice we hope you had the best day surrounded by friends and family. You truly deserved it ❤️
