🤔What is Gastroparesis?

August is Gastroparesis Awareness Month! Let's shed some light on this often misunderstood chronic digestive disorder, also known as "slow stomach".

🐌Gastroparesis is when your stomach muscles don't work properly, causing food to move too slowly into the small intestine. This can lead to a host of uncomfortable symptoms, including nausea, bloating, and feeling full fast alongside nutrients absorption issues.

😯Did you know these conditions are closely linked to gastroparesis?

Vagus Nerve Damage: The vagus nerve controls essential functions like stomach contractions and digestive enzyme release. Poor "tone" can slow everything down and even activate mast cells.

Connective Tissue Disorders: Weak connective tissue (like in Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) can affect stomach structure and motility, making contractions less effective.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS): Mast cells can release inflammatory mediators like histamine, which can disrupt the nerves and muscles that coordinate digestion.

While there's no cure, symptoms can be managed with diet, medication, and lifestyle changes. It's crucial to understand these connections to get the right support.
