Our residents have been busy making St Brigids's Crosses for St Brigid's day on the 01st February. They are proudly displayed in our foyer and we think you will agree they look amazing!
St Brigid's Day, also known as Imbolc, is a Gaelic traditional festival celebrated on February 1st. It marks the beginning of spring and is associated with the ancient Gaelic festival of Imbolc, which initiated the beginnings of spring and new growth. The day is a time to take stock and think ahead, and it has been widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. The festival is believed to have Christianized older pagan beliefs in the goddess Brigid, a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann, a race of supernatural beings who inhabited Ireland in ancient times. Saint Brigid is remembered for her remarkable displays of compassion, leadership, and generosity, and her feast day is celebrated with various customs and traditions, including the weaving of a St Brigid's Cross and the Brigeog doll.
