With Ireland under another Status Yellow weather warning, wet paths and unpredictable conditions mean slips, sprains, and emergencies can happen when we least expect them. Practical first aid skills, knowing what to do if someone collapses, starts choking, or suffers a bad fall, aren’t just nice to have; they’re essential.
At STAC, our experienced instructors don’t just teach CPR and wound care. They share the little things the pros know, like:
The Talk-Through Technique is a calm, guided method for keeping someone conscious and focused if they’re going into shock. Simple reassurance, such as “Can you hear me?” or “What’s your name?” keeps their brain engaged, helping to maintain blood flow and breathing until help arrives.
The “Immobilise Above and Below” method is used after a suspected fracture or severe sprain. Instead of moving the limb for comfort, a trained responder stabilises the joints above and below the injury. This reduces pain, prevents tissue damage, and can mean the difference between a smooth recovery and a lasting injury.
These are the kinds of practical, confidence-building skills you’ll learn in our First Aid Response course, real training for real-life emergencies.
