Does your cough need an antibiotic? There are plenty of viruses going around at present. Many chest infections are caused by viruses and will clear up themselves within a few weeks, antibiotics will not help a virus.

See the link below for some tips`on when you should contact your GP regarding your cough:

- You feel very unwell or your symptoms get worse
- Coughing up blood or blood-stained mucus
- You have a cough for more than 3 weeks
- You are pregnant
- You are over 65
- You have a weak immune system – for example, if you have diabetes or you're having chemotherapy
- You have a long-term health condition, such as a heart or lung condition

Some chest infections are mild and clear up on their own. Others can be severe and life-threatening. Learn about the symptoms and treatment of chest infections.

Second Boosters of Covid-19 vaccine will be made available to all eligible patients - that is, those aged Over 65 years, and people with a weak immune system (this is a very specific list of conditions).

GPs have not been given vaccines as of yet and we expect we will receive delivery in the coming weeks. When we have full details, we will let patients know here and on our website. Please do not call the practice this week as we have no further information yet.

In the meantime, patients can book in to a HSE vaccination centre if they wish by following the link below. For those who may be in the weak immune system category, please look at the HSE information to check if you meet their criteria.

Choose a time and date that suits you. You can book an appointment up to 5 days in advance.
