Wicklow County Childcare

Wicklow County Childcare Supporting childcare providers, childminders and parents in the Wicklow area. Wicklow.

WCCC was formed in 2001 and is funded by the Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE) to improve the quality of childcare in Co. To advance and support the provision of childcare facilities on a local level, City and County Childcare Committees (CCCs) were established in 2001. Funded by the DCEDIY, 30 of these organisations operate across Ireland and over the last 15 years have been at the centre of all state developments and initiatives aimed at supporting the early years sector. In addition to supporting the administration of all Government funding programmes for childcare, City and County Childcare Committees act as the local ‘one stop shop’ for early childhood services, childminders and parents looking for support with quality development, HR, governance, financial sustainability and continuing professional development. Collectively, City and County Childcare Committees have a national reach into all 4,300 early childhood services across Ireland.

We are proud to support Children First Awareness Week 2025. This year's campaign reminds us that “We Were All Children Once. Now We Are Children First.”

This is a powerful message about our collective responsibility to keep children safe in our communities – child safeguarding is everyone's business. We encourage all parents and responsible adults to learn more and feel confident to ask questions about safeguarding policies. Find out more at gov.ie/childrenfirst

The Early Learning and Care Provider Forum took place yesterday. Establishing the Forum builds on the Department’s strong commitment to engaging with stakeholders.

The pathway to developing the sector was set out in Partnership for the Public Good — the report of the Expert Group agreed by Government in 2021.

Providers play a central role in achieving the goal of delivering quality, affordable and accessible early learning and care and school-age childcare services in Ireland.

Significant progress has already been made in advancing this mission.
