It’s not always comfortable putting your work forward to be judged at a national level, particularly when you spend most of your time focused on delivery rather than promotion.

We didn’t win on the night, but being recognised as a finalist at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards 2026 was still a really significant moment for Fit Farmers

For a programme built around practical, community-based health support for farmers and rural communities, it’s encouraging to see our work acknowledged at a national level.
Recognition like this helps reinforce that accessible, locally delivered health initiatives have an important role to play.

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners, and thank you to everyone who has supported programme along the way especially Dr Knut Schroeder Expert Self Care who joined me at the event.

Tonight in Ballyleague, our guest speaker, Leitrim footballer and author; Martin Mc Hugh spoke about how, despite being fit and healthy, finding a lump in 2009 led to a diagnosis of , surgery and months of chemotherapy that turned his world upside down.

At his lowest, it was football that lifted him again. 💛💚Martin’s message is simple and heartfelt: if you notice something, get it checked early, it could save your life!

🎤 A wonderful initiative to encourage farmers to step away from the farm to enjoy some well deserved social & self-care time with their peers! Whilst this group are particularly talented and have had the backing of Clarksons Farm.{2026} & obvious associated resources to help them showcase this on the national stage, I hope their performance will normalise and inspire other farmers to come together to do something joyful together to prioritise themselves & enhance farmer wellbeing!
