💛 Ganly’s Turns Black Friday into Bright Friday in Support of Crumlin Children’s Hospital 💛

Ganlys Athlone Longford Mountbellew are launching an amazing initiative this year, their first Bright Friday event, taking place on Black Friday, 28 November, to raise funds for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Black Friday will still be its usual busy day of offers and great value, but this time there is an added focus on something much more meaningful. On Bright Friday, all profits from sales will be donated to CHI Crumlin, supporting children and families who rely on specialist care. Ganly’s is a well-known, family-run home and DIY retailer in the Midlands, with a long history of supporting their local communities.

We also love that Ganly’s are encouraging people from across Ireland to take part. Anyone who chooses to shop with them on Bright Friday can enjoy the savings while also contributing to an important cause. It is a simple choice that can have a real impact.

At RHS Home Care, we always welcome local efforts that give back to the community. We see every day how meaningful support can be, and Bright Friday is a great example of a business using a busy retail day to make a positive difference.

Well done to everyone at Ganly’s for leading the way with this initiative 💛

If you are in the area, or browsing online for DIY and tools, home improvement, garden and outdoor products, homewares, stoves and fireplaces, bathrooms and flooring, Christmas items, gifts and more, it is a wonderful opportunity to support a local business that is giving back.

World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day 2025

Today marks the first official World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day. It is a powerful reminder that cervical cancer is preventable, treatable and can be eliminated.

Ireland is on track to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040, with a goal of reducing cases to fewer than 4 per 100,000 women. This would make cervical cancer a rare disease in Ireland.

Progress is driven by three key actions:

HPV vaccination

High-quality cervical screening

Timely treatment and follow-up care

Everyone has a role to play. Attend your cervical screening when invited. Talk to family and friends about the importance of the HPV vaccine. Encourage others to understand the signs and take steps to protect their health.

Ireland’s target date to eliminate cervical cancer is 2040. The Minister for Health made the announcement on 17 November 2023 to mark Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action.

Movember is here, a month dedicated to raising awareness about men’s health, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health.

Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men in Ireland, with almost 4,000 men diagnosed each year. Regular check-ups can be life-saving, especially for men over 50 or those with a family history.

Understanding the risks, recognising symptoms and talking to your GP early can make a real difference.

💙 World Diabetes Day | 14 November 💙

Today marks , a global reminder to prioritise our health and well-being at every stage of life.

This year’s theme, “Diabetes Across Life Stages”, highlights that diabetes can affect anyone, from childhood to older age, and that prevention, awareness, and access to care are vital throughout our lives.

In Ireland, it’s estimated that around 270,000 people are living with diabetes, and around 90% of these cases are Type 2 diabetes, which is often preventable through healthy lifestyle choices.

🩺 Prevention matters.
Small lifestyle changes such as eating well, staying active, maintaining a healthy weight, and getting regular check-ups can significantly reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

At RHS Home Care, we support people living with diabetes by promoting healthy daily routines, providing compassionate care, and helping clients live well and independently. 💙

Shared Reading Groups for People Living with Dementia

A lovely local initiative is taking place at Roscommon Town Library every Friday from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The Shared Reading Group is a gentle, social space for people living with dementia, and their friends, family, or carers to come together for a cup of tea, a chat, and some shared storytelling.

Aisling and Hilary from the Roscommon Library branch will read a short story and a poem aloud, followed by relaxed conversation that often sparks wonderful memories and connection.

🫖 No preparation needed, just drop in and enjoy.
