An article published today by the Irish Examiner highlights the growing need to plan for the future of health and social care in Ireland.

As our population grows and ages, demand for health and social care services continues to increase. The findings point to the need for long-term workforce investment, planning and training across community-based health and social care services.

At RHS Home Care, we see every day how important home support is in helping older people remain safe, comfortable and independent in their own homes.

As an HSE-approved home support provider, RHS Home Care is proud to play our part in supporting older people, families and local communities across Roscommon, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim.

Planning for the future of care means recognising the important role of community-based support, and the people who deliver it every day.

Knocknacarra ARA will host a community support walk on Thursday 28 May in Salthill Co. Galway to raise awareness of the need for equitable access to shingles vaccination for all people aged 65 and older.

Shingles is a nasty and painful condition. Effective vaccination is available but it is expensive. Access to preventative healthcare should never be only for those who can afford to pay.

Come along and walk with Knocknacarra ARA at 11am on 28 May and show your support!! Starting at the Claddagh Hall to the Circle of Life Garden and return. Contact Gerri Gavin for more information via email at gerrigavin@hotmail.com

🌼 Dementia Inclusive Community Special Award - SuperValu TidyTowns competition 🌼

TidyTowns committees can now apply for the Dementia Inclusive Community Special Award as part of the SuperValu TidyTowns competition.

Sponsored by the HSE National Dementia Service, this award recognises communities that are helping to create inclusive, supportive and accessible places for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Examples could include dementia awareness initiatives, inclusive community activities, accessible public spaces, or outdoor areas designed to stimulate the senses and encourage reminiscence.

At RHS Home Care, we know how important it is for people living with dementia to feel included, supported and connected within their own communities. This is a lovely opportunity for local TidyTowns committees to highlight the positive work being done in their area.

🏆 Winning committees in both categories will receive €2,000, with runner-up prizes of €500 also awarded.

📅 Applications close: 8 June 2026

Further information and application details are available through https://www.tidytowns.ie/the-competition/special-award-entry-forms/ ( See Award No. 16, Dementia Inclusive Community Award.
