Mouth, head and neck cancers affect over 760* people in Ireland each year. They include all cancers affecting the organs and tissues of the mouth, head or neck.

🎗️ July is Sarcoma Awareness Month 🎗️

Sarcomas are rare cancers that can form in the bones, cartilage, or soft tissues — like muscle, nerves, or fat.

➡️ 4 in 5 sarcomas are soft tissue sarcomas
➡️ 60% of these occur in the leg
➡️ But sarcomas can affect any part of the body

🟡 Possible symptoms include:
• A lump or swelling
• Pain or tenderness
• Limited mobility
• Fatigue
• Unexplained weight loss
• Bone fractures

Benign lumps are common — but can look similar to sarcomas, which is why proper testing is essential.

🧪 Diagnosis may involve:
✔️ Imaging tests (X-ray, MRI, CT, Ultrasound)
✔️ Biopsy (tissue sample)

🌞☀️ Hot Weekend Ahead – Stay Sun Smart! ☀️🌞

With temperatures set to climb into the high 20s this weekend, many of us will be heading outdoors to enjoy the sunshine. But while warm weather is lovely, it is important to stay safe, especially for older people.

As we age, our bodies find it harder to regulate temperature, which increases the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

We have put together some practical tips to help older adults stay cool and safe in the sun:

✅ Stay well hydrated – sip water regularly
✅ Avoid being outdoors during peak heat (11am to 3pm)
✅ Keep curtains closed to block out direct sunlight
✅ Use fans or cool cloths indoors
✅ Wear loose, light clothing and a hat if outside
✅ Watch for signs of heat stress like dizziness or confusion

🌡 Struggling to Sleep in the Heat?

The warm weather has arrived, and while the sunshine is welcome, it can make getting a good night's sleep a bit more difficult especially for older people.

If you or someone you care for is finding it too warm at night, here are a few simple ways to cool down at bedtime:

🧊 Keep curtains closed during the day to block out the heat
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the evening
❄️ Use a fan or cooling gel pad if needed
👚 Choose light, breathable nightwear
🛏️ Switch to cotton sheets for a cooler sleep
