The Community Development Department in Roscommon County Council is delighted to be a Finalist in the Small Sustainability Team of the Year Category for the Climate Change Leadership Awards.

Following the Storm Eowyn response which saw the mobilisation of 41 community hubs across the county to support those impacted by the storm Healthy Roscommon in collaboration with Roscommon Public Participation Network and Roscommon County Council has developed a Community Resilience Toolkit to support the wellbeing of communities impacted by climate based emergencies.

In leading with empathy, ingenuity, and purpose and with a wellbeing focus, the Community Development Department has set a benchmark for what a sustainability team can achieve.

This work has had a measurable impact—reducing vulnerabilities, increasing preparedness, and inspiring other local authorities to replicate the model. It demonstrates how climate action can be locally grounded yet nationally significant.

🚶‍♀️🚶Mo Chairde Get's Active 🏃‍♀️🏃

Healthy Roscommon were delighted to fund this initiative in Keadue, North Roscommon which saw both older adults and rural men's group members taking part in a programme to increase levels of physical activity, improve strength and balance and promote wellbeing to maximise independent living.

We know that maintaining and increasing physical activity and strength in older adults will

- Reduce Falls Risk
- Support the management of Chronic Diseases
- Improve Mood
- Reduce the risk of cognitive decline
all while encouraging and facilitating social interaction and having fun!

Thank you to all of the participants for their engagement, the tutors and facilitators for their expertise and to the team Mo Chairde for supporting this initiative for their active age and rural men's groups.

Did you know that your baby’s mental health is their social and emotional wellbeing. It develops through their relationship with you.
In this relationship with you, they learn to:
💚experience and express their feelings
💚form close relationships with their parents, family members and other people who take care of them
💚explore their surroundings and the world

Healthy Roscommon is working with partners around the county to support parents and children's mental health through programmes such as Baby Reflexology, Play Therapy, Art Therapy and physical activity programmes.
We are also working hard on making Roscommon a Breastfeeding Friendly county.

Take some time to read the information below on how you can support your baby's mental health and for further information visit

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Ireland accounting for almost 13,000 cases annually. The number of people being diagnosed with skin cancer in Ireland is rising rapidly. Yet, in most cases, it is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer.

If you work outdoors you are exposed to a 2-3 times higher amount of UV radiation than someone who works indoors. Overexposure to UV radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage as well as skin cancer.

We are in Week 4 of our Menowell Programme already!

For week 4 of the MenoWell Roscommon programme, Dr Kiera Ward from EduFIT delivered a workshop on ‘Building Bones for a Healthy Menopause’. Bone health is important for women, as women are more at risk of developing osteoporosis than men. Osteoporosis causes bones to break more easily, leading to an increased risk of fractured bones.

So what can we do to improve our bone health?

Exercise is considered the primary non-pharmacological treatment for prevention of osteoporosis and fall-related fractures. Check out the resource below to see the type and amount of exercise that is recommended. It is also important to consume enough calcium and vitamin D to prevent bone loss.

The ‘MenoWell Roscommon’ programme is designed and delivered by EduFIT and supported and funded by Roscommon LEADER Partnership in association with Healthy Roscommon.
