What’s in Your Child’s Focus Toolbox?

A Focus Toolbox is a small collection of supportive tools that help children understand what their body needs to feel calm, regulated and ready to focus.

When children have access to the right supports, they begin to recognise what helps them and confidently choose tools that work for them.

We’ve added a range of thoughtful sensory tools that can become part of your child’s Focus Toolbox — designed to comfort, ground and support, not overstimulate.

💛 Support tools aren’t a sign something is “wrong” — they help children learn, grow and understand themselves.

Assessment is rarely one-dimensional - and neither is our approach.

Led by Senior Clinical Psychologist Dr. Sarah Collins, our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) brings together Clinical Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.

Each brings their own expertise, but they work together to build a full picture of your child’s strengths and needs.

Our MDT approach helps families find clarity when concerns span across areas like learning, communication, sensory needs, behaviour, or development.

It also means that recommendations are clear with a unified set of recommendations that make sense together and support each other.

Every assessment starts with an intake appointment with Dr Sarah Collins, who will go through your child’s development and current challenges and from there she will guide you to the most appropriate form of assessment and a team member who provides that.

If you’re wondering whether an MDT assessment is right for your child, we’d be happy to talk it through.

What happens during an early language development session?

These sessions are playful and child-led 😌

The Speech & Language Therapist follows your child’s interests, using shared attention and modelling of functional language to create natural opportunities for communication.

Depending on your child’s needs, the therapist might use a visual timetable to provide gentle structure — or simply join them in the activities they choose.

The focus is on building the foundational skills that support communication development.

You’ll also receive advice on how to best support your child’s communication at home 🏡

This is post 4 of 4 in our series on the main session types we offer:

What happens during a language session with a Speech & Language Therapist?

In these sessions, your child will take part in fun, play-based activities designed to support their language development. The therapist will tailor each session to your child’s specific goals — and activities might take place at a table, on the floor, or even by the bubble tube 🫧

We also support you as a parent, helping you feel confident in continuing language activities at home and in everyday routines.
